What I did was removed existing tre position onto a length of wood and then assembled new steering rod and tre's to match markings on wood. Assembled steering /tre's dropped straight into uprights no bother and as such was really surprised to see how much steering wheel is now off centre compared to host it was?

As Munch said get your tracking done professionally before we're subjected to another plethora of threads and/or posts about tyre wear, vehicle pulling to the left or right or any other issues caused by your recent bout of tweaking and fettling in pursuit of your Holy Grail.......'perfection'......PLEASE!

I will need to get the tracking done properly - but I still need to fit the short steering rod first.
Truck getting the once over tomorrow along with some tweaking so hopefully can report back soon. Sorry munch90 I don't think I commented on your earlier assumptions of being low mileage... done almost 53k trouble free miles. Happy Easter weekend all. |

So ok there's been the odd inconvenience along the way.........
Nothing that ever bothered me very much though. Will get a few photos and general update later etc. ( still surprised re the tracking - clearly I got it wrong but to be honest a full turn appeared to show up on the length of wood as either too long or too short and the fact that the new track rod just dropped straight into the uprights I was sure there was no change ) |

Got a feeling I'm going to use wrong terminology here but I'll try all the same....
I've fitted to track rod and new ends (one of which was shot), gone for the terrafirma HD version (ends have grease nipples) and surprisingly this seems to have put the steering off centre however I've yet to fit the short steering rod (also terrafirma HD version) that goes from steering column / gear to the o/s wheel upright and I believe I can use this to correct the position of the steering wheel? |

so clank on switching engine off seems to have gone, not had the serious clatter in 1st gear (although still early days to say for sure) so it's all looking good.
I've also had the quantum leap generator installed. as some of you lucky enough will know once activated generators huge gaps between the rear view mirror and the automobile behind ( ) thanks to an extra 90 Nm over standard. will be doing a few miles this will so will let you know how I get on, but for now |

damn it and blast !
why did I give the wheels a shake yesterday? there's a clatter there again ! it might simply be the brake disc shields / plate things rattling or the brake pads but I don't think so.....could it possibly be the clutch plate rattling when shaking the wheels? the other thing IS the clutch - can anyone explain what (other than me not depressing the clutch far enough) would case the clutch to drag. ie occasionally from stationary there's a clunk (like engaging diff lock) when going from neutral to first - this 'dragging' effect I'm concerned might be having a detrimental effect on me changing gear ie does the ECM not see a proper drop in torq on the engine and therefore not do the gear change harmonisation properly which prevents me from being able to adjust engine revs properly for a smooth gear change ie sometimes when changing gear it's like the load pedal has become non responsive? in the same way when you slow down to a stop the engine revs drop to c800 rpm when there's no load on the engine - with load it's at about 900 rpm? |

just waiting for a date to get clutch and extension shaft replaced. I'm hoping that will sort 'everything' out. (really can't wait).
that said I'm curious what could be 'clanking' when shaking the wheels....are they all like that?.....remembering I'm only 10.5 stone so certainly not superman. 'clanking / rattle' seems to be coming from the front but I can hear it if I shake the back wheels too? |

Def is just parked up on the ground.
holding tyre at 12 o'clock position and pushing / pulling generates a clank clank clank type sound? it does sound a little like the disc back plates are hanging on a piece of string clanging but if I tap them they are secure and no rattle? |
