I noticed a few weeks ago my center cap for my wheel fell off. I drove a few hundred kilometers and today I noticed a bit more oil leaking on my tires. As in the pictures. Upon closer inspection. The bolts inside are all loose.

Thats it?? I can clean it with brake cleaner and apply thread lock to the bolts?

Yup, although you might want a new gasket too. I recently had to replace a gasket on one of mine and it's quite simple.
I had drained the axle oil though. If you're not doing that then you'll need to jack it up reasonably high to stop the oil pouring out of the end! I'm going on a 200 km road trip tomorrow.. I was reading that I need to check something using a bracket dial clamp?? is this necessary?

NO GOOD!! I just took the wheel off and all the bolts are broken.. sheared off the hub.

Happened to me a few years back. Guessing that they are broken inside and not protruding. If you are lucky then you can drill and use a bolt removal tool. Not a quick fix though - took me a whole morning of cursing and swearing!

The flange connects the halfshafts/CVs to the wheel and should have nothing directly to do with the operation of the wheel bearing/wheel nuts/stub axle assembly (which various (older) WSMs dictate that you must check for play using a dial test indicator). So, to answer your question directly: no. Personally, after the frustrating session you're about to have with a set of 'easy'-outs ( ![]() I'm not a mechanic, so as always, I'm interested to learn if my advice is valid ![]() |

I live in Canada, and it's not easy to get parts from dealerships here. I was able to get the hub from a friend who works at Land Rover. What other parts should I get? Also, if i'm doing this i might as well do the bearings? I notice there are kits for Disco 1 and Range Rover Classics which I am able to get parts for here. Would those be the same? I'm noticing that at paddocks and John Craddocks the kit numbers are different, but the bearings appear to be the same part numbers.

The wheel bearings are the same Chris, for RR classic, Disco 1 and Defender.
You'll need a hub seal, drive flange gasket, locking washer for the hub lock nut. Bolts are nothing special, get them from your local supplier, use spring washers (double check there's no interference on the inside of the alloy wheel when you refit it), tighten drive flange bolts to 65nm torque. I seem to recall that the bolts are heavy duty 10.9 grade.
