The bio-diesel tends to absorb more moisture, you end up with lots of water going through your filters and injectors. Check out the above link to Diesel Aid Fuel treatment. £50 treats 2,500 litres of diesel. When you read the proposed benefits of the product it lists the exact things that people are claiming from using 2 stroke. These include quieter running, increase in power,increases combustion so lowers exhaust gases and helps keep the fuel system lubricated.When reading it you could be reading the 2 stroke thread here!You can also buy a test kit to check that the fuel you are buying complies with theEN-590 diesel spec. Thought I would mention it as I found it interesting, just a different way of achieving the same goal. They do not like EGR valves and say they should never have been fitted to cars. They recommend blanking them off-where possible. Sounds like one of us already! "Diesel Aid is advantages to Bio-diesel and heating oil’s as it will allow for better combustion and also help to dissipate any water within the fuel. Diesel Aid is also effective in home heating fuel and used in the same treatment ratio will save you money." How? |

Not recommending it, just thought it might be of interest to read. If they are claiming those benefits are good for your engine then adding the 2 stroke which seems to do the same, must be good for your engine too. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Looks like we all missed it. A tank full of 2stroke would be expensive no matter how quiet it was. Hope we do not strt to anulise a te pists on hure as wi all mike mystukes. Looks like I will have to go back to getting the Mrs. to type mine for me. Just in case... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

As a note, I've been adding about 300ml to a tank for a couple of months now, its done about 50K and first MOT was today, smoke meter was 0.76, fast pass limit is 1.5, engine must be below 3 for a pass.
It failed btw, bloody foglight on the wrong side! (LHD import, I did the headlamps, added mph to the speedo etc but forgot to change the fog and reversing around) |

I have just bought some FB 2-stroke oil from the motor factors at £3.25/litre in 1litre bottles which i didnt think was bad. In the past ive used Millers diesel additive which i bought for £10 and would give me ten 50 litre fills using the minimum recommended ratio working out at £1 per fill or a extra 2p/litre. Using 2-stroke at a 200:1 ratio and a 50 litre fill of diesel will work out at £0.8125 (just over 81p) per fill or 1.625p/litre so this also works out a little cheaper.
I was going to start recording my mpg to see if it changes much, but as i have been using Millers in my fuel before i didnt think it would be a fair comparison as im not going from no additives to using 2-stroke. I normally work out my mpg when i fill up though so will keep a eye out to see if there is any change in the trend. Pete. |
