Hi Rob

I would use a 75w-90 for the lot.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90-mtf...fluid.aspx

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Red Line MT90 and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives. The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff and transfer box. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Amsoil FGR are also good choices.

Regards

Tim

Hi Simon

For the diffs and transfer box, yes, but you need a MTF for the gearbox and I would go with the Red Line MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80 and Motul Motylgear are good cheaper alternatives.

Tim - I'm due to replace the gearbox oil on a 2007 110 (puma) but am getting confused by the many recommendations for oil on various threads vs what Land Rover says is required. On page 645 of the LR Puma Workshop manual it states that the manual transmission fluid should meet (Ford) specification WSD-M2C200-C.

I've been through the specs on your website for all the gearbox oils you mention in the post above (and indeed all 29 75w 90 oils on the website) and none of them mention WSD-M2C200-C. The only one which comes close is the Amsoil which has a reference to Ford standards but nothing specific. One not on your list (but on your website) and recommended by a number of people on here is Castrol Syntrans Multi-Vehicle 75W 90. This again is confusing as the spec sheet for this product in the UK doesn't mention the Ford spec but the product description on Castrol's site alludes to Ford approval and there is anecdotal evidence (from someone on the forum who contacted Castrol) that it does meet the Ford spec.

Do you know which oil Land Rover (or Ford) uses as standard - might be a starting point.

Thanks

Hi

The Ford 200C gearbox oil spec translates to be a 75w-90 GL4 oil, so using a 75w-90 GL4 (or GL5 if you pick the right one, some of the ones I listed are GL4/5) will be fine.

The Syntrans Multivehicle is ideal, sorry I forgot to mention that.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-739-castrol-sy...5w-85.aspx

To be honest, I don't know what they fill them with in the factory, although I assume it's one of the Castrol BOT products. The BOT oils are the ones that they produce for factory filling and tend not to give out much information about.

Cheers

Thanks Tim. Out of interest I also spoke to a very helpful guy in Castrol's Technical department today. He suggested the Castrol Syntrans FE 75W full synthetic gear oil (GL4) and the Castrol Syntrans Multi-Vehicle 75W 90 full synthetic MTF, also GL4. Both avoid any potential issues with GL5 additives (I'll ask Land Rover about this)

The next time you send me an email with one of those humungous discounts I'll put in an order! Smile

Hi

I don't see there being any issue with GL5 oils anyway, that is generally a myth. This is the Castrol product I'd go for,
