Hi

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic as the best option.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G/ULE, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

As a budget choice, a 10w-40 will be fine and I would either go for the Fuchs Syn MC, Shell Helix, Millers Trident/EE Nanodrive, Castrol Magnatec, Mobil Super 2000 or Motul 6100

Hi Oilman Very Happy

4.6l Rover V8 Petrol (new engine from RPI)
Stage 3 this that and the other.

My brother in law is a honcho at Fuchs, so something from their catalogue would be great!

Hi

I would use a 5w-40, from Fuchs the best option is the Pro S, followed by the GT1 XTL and then the Supersyn.

Cheers

United Kingdom 2001 Defender 90 Td5 HT Java Black
Hi I am anther Defender owner caught in the oil maze
Make - Land Rover
Model - Defender TD5 (15P engine)
Year - 2001
Mods - re map
Use (road/track etc) - light use mostly road

I have 10150 mls on the clock now and I wonder if it would make sense to use a 5 - 40 full synth oil instead of the 5 - 30
I saw the Halfords oils on offer recently and if you look at the Safety data sheets the oils are clearly made by Comma they have a 5 - 30 Ford and a 5 - 40 ACEA A3 B4, would these be OK?

Hi

Does it burn much oil? If it's not burning much, stick with a 5w-30. If the oil consumption has gone up, a 5w-40 or 10w-40 is a sensible option.

Cheers

Hi

A full synthetic is the best option for it, but a semi is a suitable cheaper option.

You need 6.3-7.2L.

Hi

Not sure why it's not listing oils, I assume it's because there are a couple of options, depending on if it has a diesel particulate filter or not. Does yours have a DPF?
