There is no one best oil, it depends on many factors!

It will be ok, it might drop his mpg a bit though as the 5w-30 is used for fuel economy reasons.

Ok, I know I'm a engine designer...

but following you experience, for the Puma 2.4 Engine (no particulate filter), in your personal opinion the best oil is? Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

It all depends on application and what are you planning to get from your choice of oil. My personal favourites are the ester synthetics.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I agree very good oil...

On my KTM I use and I always used ester synthetics Wink

it is also true that 90% of the best additives for oil (and make the difference) are produced by only two large manufacturers, Mobil and Lubrizol .....

Many thanks Guy Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

United Kingdom 2005 Defender 90 Td5 HT Caledonian Blue
Hi Oilman,

2005 Td5 90 truck cab, bog standard, 60k miles

I was about to do some long drives so asked the local garage (they say they have Landy experience) to change oil, filter and rotor.

The invoice said: 'Mobil 5-30' and that's it. No info on type or standards.

I assume it is OK oil, but interestingly, the temp guage now reads cooler. It was a tad over the vertical, now it's a tad under the vertical, maybe 10 degrees of guage angle less.

Should I ask them for details?? What?
(and do Mobil make unsuitable oils ??? )

Thanks Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz
Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ...

Oilman,
Asking a bit further clarification for a 2009 model year Puma 2.4, so clearly no dpf, is there a particular Castrol brand oil which falls in your favourites section? If so, which one?
Thanks, Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Can someone fill in the gap for the Puma 6-speed gearbox, and is the LT230 transfer still used on the Pumas?

gearbox uses Castrol BOT 130 (fully synth GL-4), it is 75W/90. Do not use GL-5!. Yes, the LT230Q it`s still used.

why no GL5?

Question, I've just bought a Volvo V70 D5 (2006 so has DPF). The specs call for a 0w30 A5/B5 oil, castrol recommended by Volvo.

My 2003 td5 defender calls for a 5w30 A1 oil.

Is there an oil that would satisfy both? I'm thinking that I probably won't see any harm using a 5w30 in the volvo as it doesn't need to endure any harsh swedish winters. The manual does seem to say a 5w30 is fine for anything above -20. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"

Tim or Guy at Opie.....

Among your M2C934-B spec oils for the 2.2 DPF Puma, you have a G Force C1 Oil that is about half the price of the others you list.

Why is it so much cheaper ?

Netherlands 2012 Defender 130 Puma 2.2 HCPU Buckingham Blue
Make: Landrover;
Model: Defender 130;
Year: MY2012 Engine 2015. Engine Swapped at 115.000 (oilpump problem) now 135.000;
Mods: A lot but no engine modifications (bigger intercooler on the shelf – opting for a ECU upgrade);
Use: (road/track etc) 90% road 10% track.

Engine oil: Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro C-1 5W-30;
Gearbox / diffs: Castrol Syntrans Transaxle 75W-90 API GL-4+.

It was a pain to get the C1 oil. Fuchs or a Ford branded oil was the only locally available.

I don't know if the gearbox/diff oil is the best I can get. Please advice.

Cheers

Q.
