Got this reply from an oil supplier who spoke to Castrol

After speaking to Castrol Auto tech, BOT130 is the factory fill product, it is not available for Castrol to re-sell, it is only made for Landrover direct. Landrover in your gearbox require an oil to meet spec (ford spec) M2C 200C both BOT130 and Castrol SMX-S meet this spec. They Castrol Tech guy Said that the SMX-S is a better, higher spec than BOT130. This is Castrols retail version of BOT130.

I hope this helps

Gabriel,

There is not a good or worse oil: specs can vary a lot between one and other normative, maybe ACEA are more restrictive in some issues than WSS, but without knowing the WSS and ACEA parameters is quite difficult to say it),

In our case the manual states clearly that the Puma can ONLY use a WSS-M2C913-B or WSS-M2C921-A complaint oil. Unless LR states that other type of oil can be used I would prefer to stick in the specs to do not invalidate the guarantee.
When the dealer said me that Mobil 1 fulfills all the specs from LR I ask for a letter with the LR stamp stated that. I never receive it...

Just edited to add something:
Quote
Ford has issued a revision to WSS-M2C913-B which raises the minimum ACEA performance level from ACEA A1/B1 to ACEA A5/B5-08. Therefore, in future some ACEA A5/B5-08 engine oils may also meet the requirements of Ford WSS-M2C913-C. . that means that an ACEA A5/B5-08 oil complaint are not enough for the Puma

You two are right again, and my dealer is wrong, they are using Motul 8100 in all LR diesel models.
in my 10000 inspection, in the dealer, I asked about the oil spec, and they don't gave me an answer.
And I show an paper with the Motul specific ford oil, and they don't recognise it.

well, in next inspection, I will buy the right oil earlier!

thank for the informations

However, if you look at the tech spec sheet of the 8100 5W/30 you`ll see it also meets the HTHS properties requiered for the ENGINE (motor in Spanish). Perhaps at the time when LR made the deal with Castrol the latter did not developed a 100% synthetic oil with these characteristics.

Look at the motul web page as there are several 100% synths 5W-30. Check which one the dealer is using. Concluding, try get your own oil and be on the safe side, as we do here. Puma 110" SW

Additives
Why some oil brands offer engine and transmission oils with MoS2 additives? If that would be so good then I would say all oils should come with that stuff. Puma 110" SW

CAstrol A1 is ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5 and WSS-M2C913-B spec.

If you read into ACEA website you understand that an ACEA A5/B5-08 oil complaint ARE ENOUGHT for the Puma

Dgardel,

Just to clarify
According to ACEA (see www.lubrizol.com/acea2008/aceaa5b5.asp) some ACEA A5/B5-08 engine oils may also meet the requirements of Ford WSS-M2C913-C That means that not all the ACEA A5/B5-08 will be WSS-M2C913-C Complaint. In fact as we discussed in other post, for example, Motul have a ACEA A5/B5-08 5W30 oil and other specific oil that complaint with the Ford WSS.

Anyway Im not sure why LR is quite restrictive regarding the oil to be used, but until now thre is no other than WSS complaint as clearly stated in the manual.

Cheers Eduardo

Right you wrote, thank you for your claryfing Eduardo.

My focal points are:
1. ACEA A5/B5 oils are 100% WSS-M2C913-B complaint so are good for our Puma engined Defender

2. ACEA A5/B5 is a hard improvement for the wear protection
