Like I have some control over that! What a ridiculous statement to make. There is enough written within his forum for anyone to realise that if a thief wants it, he will get it, regardless of the security you load it with. I feel sorry for all those poor 'fools' , some of which are forum members, that have had their pride and joy stolen or bits of it removed, just to fuel a demand for parts. MOT wise, if you choose to use a dodgy MOT tester for your motor that's up to you. Like you say there will always be some crook that will pass it regardless of condition or whether it meets regulations. Integrity it would seem, is not a word in your vocabulary. The 'tuners' have not said anything either way as far as I am aware, so I will assume that a tuned, (read modified for the purpose of the regulations) engine falls outside of the prescribed emission limits for that particular vehicle and is therefore not legal on the roads. When I say vehicle, I mean any vehicle, not just Defenders. Regarding the DPF/Catalytic Converter topic getting boring, I would disagree, I think it's just getting interesting. Edited for typos, no other reason. Last edited by borderterrier on 4th Feb 2014 11:37pm. Edited 2 times in total |

In which case you should realise the benefits of having them fitted.
Well given the fact your happy to get an 'enthusiast' to MOT your vehicle, very little! |

In the chainsaw world they have been trying to get them to fit cats for years. They have managed to get away with fitting them. But what stihl has done is amazing. Our old strimmers use nearly 3 times as much fuel. The chainsaws about half the amount of fuel. It might be said the older stuff is wearing out but the fuel use is right down.
I really feel if they didn't fit these strange units with expensive and rare materials in we might get better mpg. There's been a lot of claims on here of better mpg with cat removed. I know a lot of td5 owners with no cat and the emissions are still very good. Surely using less fuel is better for the environment. |

You can't be bothered as your argument is flawed. By the majority of the people moaning, you mean me? I am not moaning, I am asking some uncomfortable questions, healthy debate is important to get facts in the open where they belong. I don't have my Defender tuned, or 'decatted' because I see no need to do either. Each to their own regarding that one. My point is, and has been all along, that of legitimate companies knowingly breaking the law by removing DPFs and Catalytic Converters from road going vehicles. We are still to establish whether tuning pushes the emissions outside the prescribed limits, but if it does then clearly that throws a whole new light on the tuning market. Policing it would be nigh on impossible, but owners should be aware of the all the facts if they decide to go down that road.

Yes I've only found info on dpf and it includes lorries.
Bit of a pain and nanny state. Can't see that many people would bother to do it. All a lot of fuss over nothing. |
