I was going to find a post to quote you on Dinnu but I got distracted and re-read three pages Whistle

Anyway, it's great how you want to preserve the originality by keeping the 17H. I personally consider it the defender of land rover engines: you don't have it because it's good, you have it because you love it. Also, what is the suffix of your LT77? I'm assuming its a later one since the engine itself appeared later on.

Actually I have the 19J. I think among the landrover owners and enthusiasts the 19J is considered the worse engine ever made by Landrover. But well said, I want to keep the originality because I love it. And I love it this way.

My gearbox is a suffix D. Not the strongest one either... but with the few horses to turn it I am sure it will last long enough 😁 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I just realized that I wrote 17H instead of 19J. I guess you know what engine is stuck in my mind now. Laughing

Yes I know. What you say is very true. I think at that time the 19J was miles ahead of competition. And even more if you consider that only a handful of years earlier, Solihull was building series 3s. Nothing against the series landrover, but I think the coil sprung landrover are far superior especially in the chassis and suspension departments. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Turned the attention to the pedals\boxes. The clutch pedal box is not yet assembled, contemplating about using Dot5, hence the other thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic78646.html

Thank you. The assembly of clean parts is really satisfying although at times frustrating when I realize I have left out a part and the way to get it in is another disassembly 😡. Happened with the gas pedal too. I was so focused on not scratching the paint, and that the pivot shaft is well greased that after tapping in the cotter pin, realized that the return spring was still on the work bench Big Cry 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Stupid mistake of mine.... I turned 6x M8 S/S bolts removing the top most 5 threads to replicate the original bolts only to find that the original bolts are UNF and not metric! Did not feel like going out to purchase 6 UNF bolts, so cleaned the original ones, and re galvanized them. Some time later, the clutch pedal box is fully assembled, and installed.

Yes Clayton. The first pic shows the SS bolts, but those are the metric ones. There are 2 side by side bolts, the UNF original bolt and the modified metric SS bolt.
Yeah, a bit of time on the wire wheel, and in the galvanizing bath (electroplating) makes them look new again. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Long time ago gave the 90 to a garage to repair a leaking clutch master cylinder. When it came back, the cover that covers the harness cable entry into the bulkhead, part number AMR4741 came broken, presumably after the clutch pipe was pulled out Big Cry Ever since, some odd 20 years, this broken cover was put aside with my other landrover spares. Glad I did not discard...

These covers are available, but the price of a small piece of plastic is ridiculous to say the least. So I made a quick and temporary repair to my original cover, got some fiberglass and resin, made a mold, and made a new one.. stronger material of course. Bit of paint.. and job done.
