Yeah, finally I can see a time when I start reassembly. There is still a lot of stuff to do, like dashboard panels, pedal boxes, heater box...the small items are as time consuming I imagine.
Been lurking online to see and get ideas from other peoples builds. Seen some good ones too however. For me, no shortcuts allowed, and what cannot be seen has to be as good and shiny as anything else. Thank you all for the positive comments. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Got a new batch of Shire blue. After a bit of tweaking to the colour, managed to get to match quite well. The vents are now painted with the new batch. Still to glue the vent seals
Click image to enlarge Finalized the remaining small parts that go on the tcase, like the bracket for the handbrake levers (this is the old style) and the handbrake assy itself. The brake drum had some yellow markings, and since I had some taxi yellow laying around, I thought why not!! Thank you Clayton. It is very hard to get the true colour of the Shire blue on camera. Think the light in the garage is not good enough. Sorry that still have to wait a bit until I can roll it outside
In the meantime, the fuel tank has been installed. It is an aftermarket one (the gaskets are in blue bags ), and it took some fiddling to get it to line up properly with the tub outrigger. I did not want to scratch the new paint - as I had to repaint it as the paint it came with was flaking off. Just a blast of air was enough to remove all the original paint I also took the opportunity to spray/blast paint down between the tank and the reinforcing plate below it, as the supplier does not worry about leaving exposed metal there!! I hope I do not get issues when I fit the fuel connectors. I know that the pickup tube flange screws will need some fuel resistant sealer as the holes on this aftermarket tank are right through, and not blind like the original tank. So I thought I would have some easy days re assembling the dashboard back.... it looked to be in decent condition.
Opened up the lower dash to replace the foam on the lower vent flaps as it had crumbled. What I found inside the lower dash would have made an entomologist a happy chap After cleaning the metal work, I was not happy with how it looked... paint was flaking off, with surface rust underneath the paint. So some more cleaning, scrubbing and rust cleaning later, here is a preview with how the plate that goes behind the vents look like. Dash is slowly coming in. The facia was a pig to get back in, but after a long while managed without braking it (its 33 year old plastic). I think in total I have installed the dash at least 3 times, either forgetting something, wrong assembly sequence, or just to get it to fit better.

A while back, I posted a picture of the front axle shock absorber mounting hole (page 6). Today gave it a shot with the welder and a bit of grinding and sanding later it came quite good. I supported the weld pool by a piece of copper plate from below. The carbide bit on the die grinder makes easy work of rounding the hole again.
