Not too much time for the restoration at the moment, but was thinking that the steering box would be an easy and quick seal replacement. Found that the sector shafts bushes are a bit worn
I like to re resurrect the original box if possible. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic79246.html 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

The steering box is ready for painting, so it will look nice again.

Ok, thank you, so here is another quick pic and update just for you both. Steering box offered to the chassis (more to take it out of the way ), so not yet done up as still need to galvanize the original bolts. I put back in the steering shaft as well, although I took the picture before I did that! Steering shaft was originally galvanized by LandRover... it will be one of the few components that will show the original patina No rusting, but the galvanizing is a bit dull.
At the moment not much being done. It is too hot to work, and the little free time is taken by the boat So probably need to wait till mid September for the next good update. Thank you.
Yes.. September will probably be front axle time... the swivel pins top (Railko) and lower bearings are in dire need of some TLC. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

September has come, and has almost gone, but very busy with work so could not stick to the plans I had made. Have to wait till November or December to have time to make any further progress 😪
However have managed to find a few evening hours, so I attacked a smaller job, restoring the brake pedal box. Still in etch primer though. Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Nice to get an update, however brief. Isn't it a shame work always gets in the way of LR play. James

Yes, indeed James. Envy those who could make LR play their work.. although probably it would take the fun away if doing it everyday. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Unforeseen change of my work plan (at least until new plan is made) left me with some free time , so thought I should put some time into the front axle. Complete hubs inc swivels out and diff out, so I will be spending some time in cleaning and preparing the front axle tube. Oil was a bit dirty

Here is the result of 2hrs non stop with a twisted wire brush on the angle grinder. My hands are still shaking from the vibrations.
