I'm having an Ashcroft conversion fitted next week as a precaution before my next continental trip.
My 2011 model 2.4 110 has done 115k miles, I bought it with 40k on the clock @ 3 years old. During my ownership no output shaft problems, so I guess it's on the statistical cusp of problems! Anyway I have the kit and have taken some pics. at odd angles Replacement for plastic and and zip tie combo Click image to enlarge Modded cup Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I'll update regarding the condition of the existing set up later next week. Yes Ian the screw on cover with dual O rings at each end of the assembly looks as if it also helps to retain the shaft fully into the cup with minimal in/out movement.
Ashcroft transmissions seem to have missed a significant USP with their marketing on this item |

The main reason for the screw-on cap is to ensure that the splined section is oil-tight (there are O rings fitted at the small end which run on a newly machined section of the output shaft), but it will also have the benefit that the parts cannot shift much if the spring ring lets go.
^^ Snap - posts coincided! |

ian series 1,
Your welcome to change my output shaft to an Ashcroft one if you want the job. Also change the clutch at the same time as mine is rattling. Let me know if you want the job. Can run the vehicle over to you. Cheers Darren |

Driving up the hill to the house tonight I heard a few teltail noises from my output shaft!!
Basically here in Italy all the dealers are closed for August so I will be doing the job my self. Ashcroft Shaft and will fit a Clutch Fix Clutch at the same time. Before I dive into the manuals, can anyone tell me any special tools or parts I may need to consider ontop of the Shaft and Clutch kits? |

You will need either a 2 or 3 leg puller to remove the drive cup from the box,
Click image to enlarge Something to align the clutch plate with, apart from that it’s all straightforward. If your doing it at home, probably the worst part is the weight of it all, especially the T box! Take care 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

I join the “my output shaft just failed” club....
Lucky I got it on the drive and moved into a sensible posistion to strip it down. I actually have the shaft failing on video..... I will try and post the video to YouTube and post a link! 2015 - 29,758miles |

How come? Was it just pure coincidence that you happened to be filming? That sound is instantly recognisable to Defender drivers as either the failure of the splines on either the o/p shaft or a halfshaft. |
