They are very good at doing that, obviously they never understood the Highways Code... No Guts, No Glory.

As Millie is going on a little trip very soon i had to get my roof box out of my store the last time i used it was on the LE-JOG trip as in the pic below ......................................
Click image to enlarge So when i picked it up it was really dirty so i had to give it a thorough clean ............................... Click image to enlarge So that was done and the i got the bars that go on Millie for the roof box to fit onto and i had these specially made for the job and all in aluminium ............................... Click image to enlarge So the next job was to fix them on, but i had forgot that i had put new wood on Millie all around so i had to start all over again, so after a lot off measuring and making sure all was in the right place, i drilled the holes in the front bar first, spot on with the level and angle to get it through the back hole The back bar was different story altogether when i backed into a wall, yes i know, i was not paying enough attention to my O/S mirror, then bang, luckily it was nothing that i could not put right with a drill and some pot rivets and the best tool in the tool box, the hammer i had knocked it out about an inch so the back bar was not wide enough, so i had a good think/ponder, then a plan came i cut into the wood each side about half an inch, then the bar slots into place, result As you can see in the pic below the back bar is flush with the wood as the front one is not, as i dont have the bars not on much my OCD can cope with this ..................................... Click image to enlarge Just a pic of Millie with the box on ................................ Click image to enlarge So all in all i had a challenging time but i got the result i was after 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

Perfect fit by the looks of it and nice and neat.
Quite surprising how much you can fit in them. Hav you ever consider painting it or getting it painted? I would imagine it's pretty rigid and probs be fairly easily paintable. No Guts, No Glory.

Yes it is surprising what you can fit in them funny enough i have thought about painting it, but to be honest i don't use it enough and have not got a " save " place to store it against all sorts of bugs etc 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

Just found these pic's of the idea i had to have a dry place to do the cooking on and sit down when eating when i was on the LE-JOG trip, as at the time i had a Kyham Igloo tent and these pic's are testing the system i had thought of and that is why i have the roof box in the middle to allow for the up rite supports ............................................
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I was well pleased and it did the job really well and i did all the cooking on the tail board, great table 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

Well on the way back on Monday from Silverstone the journey was very busy and i had thought the steering was a bit heavy but thought nothing of it until i pulled into the services and then to park up, slowing down from my motorway speed of 65mph, Millie's happy with that, i found that i could not turn the steering wheel very easy and thought yes the power steering pump had packed up, so rang my indy from the services and he could get one in for the next day, Tuesday, so after having fun and games going to work, i went over to him late afternoon to get it replaced, all done and what a difference the new one is, it goes to show how you get use to something even when it's not 100%, so we are thinking that the power steering pump was the original one, so it's done well 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I found this pic of my set up when i was doing the LE-JOG .....................
Click image to enlarge It was a good set up, the only thing i would add would be a side sheet that could fix to one side or the other to keep the wind away another use for the tail board as well 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
