Just had a new clutch fitted to my 2011 defender 21000 miles, also has to have a new transfer box but they are on back order for how long I don't know. Would like to pass on my thanks to Steve (miserableoldgit) who drove my Defender and gave me his opinion and advised me where to take it to for repair.
Kind regards Paul

Mine at 19.000 km
No issues at all. Driven it all over the highland many times. NO issues , not a single bulb failure. Clutch feels like new. http://www.defender2.net/gallery/index.php?cat=13451

Thinking I might have a clutch problem on my Puma (MY11, 30K miles). In 6th gear I notice a slight over rev on the tacho if I accelerate going up hill at say 60mph. Seems fine pulling away even if I accelerate quite hard. Any thoughts ?

Clutch replaced
Just picked mine up after having a new clutch fitted owing to rattle springs. It's transformed the drive and I'm one happy bunny! Very Happy

2011 model with 56k mileage, no problems so far. Clutch springs seem to rattle a little on tick over when stationary but rattle goes when I depress clutch pedal. I have a couple of months warranty left, is it worth taking it to the dealer to have a look at it?

Defo. Sounds like a clutch release bearing on the way out. Get it while the Censored will pay for it. Get every other single niggle you may have looked at and resolved.

Seems like its just not a good time, (just hit the 35,000 miles mark) just replaced the EGR, now on idling, i have a horrible chatter coming from the gearbox / clutch, chatter stops when I press the clutch. Since mine is an early puma late 2007, from what's being said here, I assume it has a faulty / more prone to failure clutch?

Any clue how long it will hold out till it dies totally? Do i have time / any hope to try and plead to LR?

Regards
Mark

Certainly if it is the original driven plate I'd do it asap.

There have been at least three and maybe more different iterations of the driven plate since 2007 and they are improving (a little) each time. My 2007 110 is now on clutch number 3 (fitted at approx 60k miles) and is soon to get number 4 (at approv 145k miles).

I am now convinced there is no better version out there and the mileage is only depending on type of usage.

Replaced mine with a V4 2 weeks ago after it went bang while pulling a trailer, did just over 100 000 km. It was still the original plate which had the rattle for the past 30K.

Drove the new clutch for the past 200km of which 180km offroad; continues steep hills that demand to work the car.
The new one is now already making the same sound as our new 130 with 2000km (of which 50% on this same terrain)

Not the rattle in neutral yet but when under load at certain revs / labour. This was not there during the first say 50km and was an first change on the original plate about 10k before the rattle-in-neutral started

just fyi

Just got back from my mechanic, all hands on deck, and they all concluded that its simply a "feature" to live with.
It only rattles at a certain rpm when in idle, rattle stops when clutch pedal is pressed. Apparently its a "feature" that's been around since the tdi 300s....
i was told to live with it if it doesn't bother me since it shouldn't be doing any harm.

As i mentioned earlier its done 31K miles from new, so starting to develop a few rattles, just another to add to the list, really doesn't say much about Land Rover's quality control (stating the obvious I know)!!!

give me some time and i'll post pictures of how the plate looks after rattling for too long, It is not the rattle that makes a problem but the continues beating it gets due to the free springs which are not dampening the forces as supposed to (and which cause the innocent rattle sound)
after "some" time it disintegrates completely
