United Kingdom 2013 Defender 130 Puma 2.2 SW Rimini Red
Going into the dealers Friday.

This is a list I just emailed to the dealer.

1. The vehicle keeps going into limp home. (a re-start temporarily sorts this).
2. Rough or lumpy tick over (had this from new).
3. Sometimes when idling the engine revs increase and decrease on its own or hunts (had this from new).
4. Irregular response from the engine when accelerator is released, sometimes the revs stay high so the vehicle drives its self, sometimes it shuts off completely inducing heavy engine breaking, sometimes it acts normally and slows gradually as it should.
5. The vehicle 'kangaroos' down the road when the accelerator is released. This issue has improved since the last visit but it's still doing it.
6. Lots of slack in the transmission (perhaps caused by the kangarooing has this caused excessive wear that needs to be addressed).
7. Clutch noise again ?.
8. Rattle in 5th gear at 59 - 61 mph (this still has not been resolved). 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

I have but at this point in time my patience with the dealer and the vehicle is running out. I will not be accepting the vehicle back until all of the issues are resolved or there is a plan in place to get things resolved.

I have purpose built this vehicle to carry out a specific job. To date its not earning is keep as its been in the dealers more than I have had it on site. I would be better off sticking a TDV8 with auto box and beefing up the drive train.

Rant over 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Very interesting. i started experiencing item 3 after a LR ECU update last year and it was getting worse so booked in to get looked at. Got the car back on Friday after yet another ECU update, injector re-program (as they were out) and some Pilot correction thing???
Now i have item 2,4,5. I have not driven far enough or long enough to get item 3 but to be fair that might have been fixed... Neutral

BACK ON TOPIC The clutch however has done 22k miles and is ok! (now i have said that it will be broken tomorrow Big Cry )

Pretty disappointing Andrew considering how much time and effort yourselves put into your vehicles let alone money. It seems that since we went electrical then there is no two engines the same. My DCPU is very smooth and quiet and drives witrh no problems engine wise. It still has the usual drive train clunk and I'm pretty sure it'll need a clutch before too long. My 90 (tune on it) has a noisier engine but a nice tight drive train. I hope that they get Jlo sorted to how she should be. How is Lara in comparison. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

veeeeery old topic i know, and new poster (hi)

I have a '10 2.4 110 and its just about to have its 3rd (i.e.. second change) clutch. Just wondering if anything further was established about the cause of tdci's chewing clutches and if theres a way to fix it?

Also - did people find that the clutch could be changed under warranty or not? doesnt look like mine will be! Sad Cheers, David

AFAIK new friction plates have a glossy golden look on the metal. Make sure you are not getting the outdated stuff. Puma 110" SW

You should get it replaced under warranty, if not then ask for a good will gesture from LR, call customer care be polite and they may pay a large %

As far as the replacement parts are concerned they should fit the latest modified version, clearly a false economy to fit out dated older parts Thumbs Up

I've just been reading this thread and thought I would comment, Mk is correct with his summary saying about the development as back in mid 2004 ,I was asked by the company I worked for to visit Rousch Developments. They were building two mule td5 defenders to take tdci engine for Solihull, At the time the development engineer was unhappy with the characteristics of the engine to be suitable in a defender with torque and vibrtation issues from the outset....... Working towards Carry on camping!

The fault lies in the friction plate, doesn´t it. Is this part specifically designed for the Defender ? Even if so (how does it influence vibration issues? (*)). The space provided is defined by the flywheel and bellhousing/gearbox. What I want to say is - if there is a setup which runs (don´t know much about the Transits. Later they turned to a H/D setup, being standard on the parcel-service-Transits. No more faults, but less comfortable to use. Although it cannot be only the friction plate that was being changed. I need to repeat - fully hypothetical. Please do not spread the word unless someone with firm knowledge says sth. similar. Or, just as good, tell me it´s rubbish.

(*) and after all - transferring engines to other vehicles is not totally uncommon. I, personally, think that a commercial vehicle like the Transit wasn´t the most unsuitable donor. Nissan had taken a much worse choice with the 2.8 6cylinder passenger car Diesel some 20 years ago.
