Mmmmm maybe so.

But maybe there are many others in the closet and we can out them, become the majority, and take over the LR world!

Not a chance. Far too many shiny Defenders out there for us to take over the World. But, perhaps someone would buy my newly refurbished Puma XS heated seats Rolling with laughter

So the question is... Do rad muffs work?

Super old skool tech that was once a popular fix but with the advent of diesel auxiliary heaters they have somewhat gone by the wayside.

But, to those few, those lucky few that refuse the draw of "luxury", that refuse the allure of heat on tap, that would rather wear coarse horse hair long johns than spend time in an electric eurobox...

...there are radiator muffs Rolling Eyes

Yesterday morning it was a balmy -2DegC here when I set out in Miffy, rad muff down and heated seat on...

By the time I had driven 7 minutes the coolant temp was... a tad warm Rolling with laughter

Yes it works... It works really darned well... Now for the downside to a rad muff... You have to get out and raise it. Or half raised it. Super toasty warm inside the cab. Perhaps, I should have stopped earlier, but it shows that if you live in regions where the temps are consistently low. Once the muff was raised to 2/3rds height the temp dropped very quickly back to between 76-82DegC all the way through the mountains of Snowdonia.

It will be interesting to find out whether the muff helps retain the heat during slow commuter traffic as well. Not much of that around these hills, but I will find out eventually.

Coincidentally, last weekend I re-installed the speakers in the old girl after removing the AC system. Unfortunately I must have dropped the Check Temp sensor into the speaker/wiper void behind the dash as it was reading 58DegC heater air temperatures. No complaints there at all and highlights that the standard heater isn't that bad at all. What I did notice is that as I do not have the angled footwell vents in place the volume of air appears to be less restricted. Ugly but more hot air. Some might say like its driver Rolling with laughter

And to finish a few photos from a favourite ford of mine that also happens to be an excellent dog walking spot too.

That is the Minffordd ford outside Bangor, adjacent to the disused railway leading to the old port. A nice shortcut from one side of Bangor to the other.

It has a concrete base to it and for the most part is a simple crossing, but every winter it turns into an absolute beast of a ford for a while that can wash vehicles easily down stream. The council often throw up road closed signs.

There is also a nice little green lane between the ford and Llandagai industrial estate that comes out at the cricket ground Thumbs Up

I do like a nice ford crossing.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Love the Wet Roads database. Unfortunately the website is now quite dated and the links have failed to work. Such a shame. Used to be able to super impose the fords into Google Earth/Maps, but that seems to have gone too.

The physical links do not work but if you substitute the county name the pages still work

Lovely pics πŸ‘

And as for radiator muffs - my dad had a piece of cardboard he used to β€˜stuff’ behind the grill and swore by it πŸ‘πŸ‘

Well I couldn't say no to any offer sent over via eBay Rolling Eyes

So Miffy now has a Far Corners rear recovery point. It needs a darned good clean and paint but it would look good in red on the rear crossmember.

The reason really for jumping on it is that whilst I have a 2" receiver I do not have a recovery adapter for it and I do not think you should recover off the internal pin. Although in a pinch you can do. I also do not have the traditional NAS rear step, but the Bowler style double rear step (with a gap above the hitch) although these pre-date the Bowler steps by years and I believe they were Dixon Fabrication items... Could be wrong there might be Whitbread fabrications...

Hear it is:

This will fit on top of the steps mounting plates, sandwiching them to the crossmember. It will also provide a middle step as it is a good boot toe deep.

I am just debating with myself whether I ditch the 2" receiver or is it one of those "just in case" things?!?! I suspect so, what would you do?
