As I have said in the past, if the followers of Isis are so determined to live by what is apparently a medieval reading of the teaching of Mohamed then I don't have a problem with that. However I would insist that they be allowed to practice their beliefs within the confines of a large secured, from the outside, compound in some otherwise uninhabited bit of desert with all the comforts of a true medieval society health care and everything. Let them get on with it.
I have friends and family who variously live by the word of the Quran to a greater or lesser extent and they're just as affected by the atrocities carried out as anyone else I know. Also don't forget that in the last war both us and the axis were convinced we were doing the good work of a christian god. Or put another way mankind is a violent aggressive creature capable of justifying anything to get what they want. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon. |

Yes a small minority will always abuse kindness, the same as a small minority will always attack, abuse and hate those who we assist.

I think the problem I have with your views riverboy is that you seem to confuse people of countries wanting to have more thorough vetting and checking of migrants before letting them in as hating all foreigners and not wanting to let them in. Wanting to keep your own country as safe as possible is not a bad thing and being cautious is just sensible. I understand the majority of migrants have had a very hard time and just want safety for their families but that doesn't mean anyone else should put their families at risk to help the migrants. Anyway, back to the topic. Ray

Riverboy - Stereo typical, "small minority" "lone wolf" talk when I comes to terrorist attacks.
When you talk of 'we' as a collective do you mean under your French citizenship or British citizenship? How have you contributed 'kindness' to refugees? Have you assisted aid work or offered settlement for them yourself? I haven't and I don't proclaim proclaim to have. Comments contributed towards thread: As I said before those who preach of these things I've hardly ever heard of them taking them into their own houses. Only preach to others and authorities, then wonder why there is little housing stock. That us if course on top of it's other issues. I personally don't want to live in a multicultural concrete jungle because they cannot live in civilised society over there. They have issues in their country, it's they're own fault not ours. That isn't hate, that is social responsibly in this country to protect our way of life and society. The only hate involved in my opinion is by those who cannot get their own way. A mr c*x for example has been put on a pedestal by some for example. Yes, the murder of his wife was disgraceful but equally disgraceful was the move to capitalise on it for voting purposes. His past record, is to say the least colourful. I'm very surprised mrs c*x to be honest married such a man, as being very towards the left / slightly liberal I'd have thought she maybe slightly along the feminist side of things. (Not saying that is accurate or a problem.) But when you find out what he has been up to, it is a bit of a surprise. Last but not least, I haven't seen him look that devasated to me since the £700k or so went in his bank. And what did the London attack have to do with him to pass commment? I could understand the mayor or MPs etc, but not him. No, it was hoped that it was a political attack at this crucial time. Unfortunately for some, it was not and it was ISIS which I'm sure was a disappointment. It won't be long before there is more attacks too. And that will not change unless a lot of things change, I do believe Europe will see the light and each country will go back to what it does best. We as in we the wealthy west. Its not exactly practical to expect individuals to open up their homes and to suggest that is a bit silly. However, personally I feel we as wealthy nations should be doing far more to help these poor people on a governmental level. As individuals we could certainly help by welcoming these people, get to know them, learn about their culture and teach them about ours, make friends, help them integrate, much like my French neighbors did for us all those years ago. People will always cling onto what they know when they are afraid or feel hostility. Of course they stick together, create communities in their host countries. Many Brits do the same in Spain and France, its human nature. Around 5000 men women and children drowned in the Mediterranean last year alone. Innocent people fleeing war and starvation. Closing borders and turning them away is a crime against humanity. Yes terrorists will take advantage and use this as a way of getting into Europe, but that is a price we need to pay to remain civilised.
Anyway, we seem to be getting off the original topic somewhat seeing as this chap was not an immigrant. |

I thought so.
Alan Henning tried to be Civilised over there, which was highly commendable. What happened next, oh, he was only captured and beheaded as if we are in the Middle Ages. I'm afraid that argument doesn't wash. There is also nothing to say the French or Spanish will be welcoming Brits any more at all either. I for one hope Le Pen gains ground. Either way, yay or neigh at least we are on the right track. David Cameron done his best to set the whole job up as a fix and slipped up. Didn't even have the guts to be a man and follow through either. It's taken a female PM to have more guts than he ever had to have any kind of glory. No surprise you support the French far right.
Out of respect for Martin and other members I think we should end this conversation now before it gets out of hand. |

As this is yet again becoming an outlet for some inflammatory comments, i am closing the thread and I will remove attempts to restart this topic of conversation.
It is perfectly possible to have discussions like this without causing friction but again I have to step in and stop things degenerating. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
