Quite sobering, I am in London, if the meeting I was in hadn't run over I would have been walking over Westminster Bridge at the time. I am staying in a hotel immediately on the other side of the bridge to Westminster.
On a positive note. The resilience of Londoners never fails to impress. This evening with roads closed and police tape across a lot of the roads and pavements surrounding the area people are out and about in bars and restaurants and there is an impression of defiance. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.

What did you have in mind?

1 British born person drove a car down a pavement. Same person drove car into railings and more people. Got out with a knife.
Stabbed a police officer.
Tried to enter a building, got challenged, didn't stop, got shot.

I realise I am probably raising this with the benefit of hindsight, however there is nothing sensible that we could change that would prevent that? New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info

I have some ideas but the modern world is not 'free to speak your mind' anymore so it's probably best I keep my mouth shut......

Personally I'd be happy for some members of the public to carry concealed weapons - I'd certainly apply for a permit.

Please.... this is not an invite to a full-blown extreme racist tirade about people with different skin colours, places of birth, religious beliefs or similar.

It is the act of a lunatic with a warped sense of reality and something extremely difficult for anyone to protect against in a non-extremist way. Phil

/\ I have no idea how you spring to such an idea?

People do need to wake up to reality though;

One article says this;

"We completely reject any attempt to see an opportunity to blame any particular community or faith, or any other community in this city, for the perverted actions of an individual.

and then this;

More details of Birmingham arrests revealed

The Metropolitan Police has released more details of people arrested in Birmingham in connection with the London terror attack.

In total, seven arrests have been made in the city:
• A 21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were arrested at an address in Birmingham
• A 26-year-old woman and three men aged 28, 27 and 26 years old were arrested at a separate address in Birmingham
• All six were arrested overnight on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts
• A 58-year-old man was also arrested this morning at a separate address in Birmingham on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts

I'm no mathematician but I wouldn't 7 + the perpetrator = an individual?

Arresting someone is one thing, charging is another. Aiding and abetting perhaps...?

Not quite sure of the point you are trying to make nor do I see if it is one person or seven, you see something needing to change. Are you suggesting people shouldn't have associates and this way you will stop crimes?

I doubt you are and this is precisely why the public should never be allowed to carry guns. Phil

No one can truly prepare for an extremist, who has been radicalised, I am sure there are many sleepers living on the streets of the UK waiting to commit terror and who are under the radar of our intelligence, just like the people who have caused similar mayhem abroad many who were known but not thought a risk. I think we just have to attentive to anything that seems out of place or odd and report it to the police if we have suspicions, as the deputy commissioner of the met said last night.

As for members of the public being allowed to carry firearms, now that would make our country a scary place. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Hearts and minds.

You can't bomb or shoot an idea out of existence, it is not possible. That cuts both ways as the people of all cities that have suffered this will attest to.

It is a sobering thought that the puppet masters can still find canon fodder to commit these offences.

Arming the general public would be a dream for the terrorist hierarchy and a disaster for the population. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

/\ If I were walking down the street and some armed bandit came towards me with a big gun taking pot shots at jo public I'd be very happy and less scared if a member of the public pulled out a concealed weapon and took him out. Turns out he was ex-armed forces.

Knowing there were people like that about would make me feel safer not scared - that's just my opinion of course.

And besides we already have armed people on the street both in the terms of 'bandits' and plan clothed police. Wasn't it just last week some bandit in London got shot in the head?

Personally I'd like to see the odds swung in my favour ie if we can't reduce the number of bandits with guns then lets increase the number of trained good guys with guns.

Rolling Eyes I have enough trouble avoiding being shot in my own garden when the hunting season starts here. The last thing I need is a bunch of inbred peasants walking around with concealed weapons Evil or Very Mad

They say this man was British born but I don't imagine his name is dave smith..... been confirmed now that he was acting on behalf of Islamic state. These cowards get away too easy by blowing themselves up or forcing the cops to fire upon them. If they were drawn and quatered they may think twice. The police in this country should be armed 100%. All the criminals are armed or wearing c4 so we're sending these poor people out with pepper spray. When these people take the lives of honest hard working British people then they should forfeit their human rights. In this country, if someone breaks into your house and you give them both barrels or even just defend yourself with a bat or knife, you get put away.
