I'm not saying that it won't work, it's just that it works differently to the original. With these relays, you would have thought that you could put all the current through the relays without worrying, like the LR version through a simple switch.
My question is why? Merlin |

Little update. After several weeks with this loom, can only say it is just what the doctor ordered.
As the installation was made with the signal taken from one of the original H4 connectors everything works as before. But with the additional effect that even if the truck has been unused for a week or more, and I turn the headlights on before starting the engine, the Speakers do not flicker anymore, meaning they get the full power load from the battery without any Voltage losses from the juice having to run via the original switch as was the case before. ![]() Eric You never actually own a Defender. 6 weeks later I have given up waiting as the seller said he had posted but "don't have a tracking number". Avoid him like the plague! E bay are giving me a refund so its only time lost.
I am now going to try and make up my own, more expensive of course but you can only wait on Chinese junk for so long! ![]() ![]() 1994 Def 90 300tdi |

As I said before, look on ebay for a harness for a mk1 golf and they fit and work perfectly fine. The one I used on my 110 was originally for one of my mk1 golfs but I never got around to fitting it so decided to put it on the landy

Thanks, but they seem to be quite expensive though, for a little effort I can make them up a lot cheaper. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

I eventually got mine, but the wires to the off side is too short. Had to extend these which was APITA. Wish I'd gone for the Mk1 Gold kit now.

In the end (regardless of PsITA) it will be worth it

Just finished this mod, made my own harness using parts list from Diablo's list on page 1. I have done it slightly differently and run the cables inside the wings following the original route. I put the relays in the centre on the front of the bulkhead just under the channel under the bonnet, so shouldn't need any waterproofing, I already have a spot light relay here. Feed is coming straight off the alternator, so instead of 10.3 volts at the bulb holder, I now get 12.8 volts and the light is so clear and white rather than the dull yellow glow. I'll try and get a picture beside an unmodded one to see if the difference shows. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

Thought it would be impressive with normal bulbs

Fitted mine on the 6th April, took it out for the first time after dark last night for a drive into Birmingham, the difference was obvious as soon as I switched on the lights with the beam appearing brighter in both dipped and high beam, I can definitely recommend this mod. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Fitted my home made harness with relays today for the headlights. No melting stalk switch for me!!
I used male H4 connectors to take the switched power to the relay so I didn't have to butcher the existing harness Took the earth for the lights from the existing connector as well. Relay is earthed separately in the engine bay. Used 2mm sq thinwall cable throughout all in convoluted tubing to protect wires. |

really you should take a different earth and have it same size as new positive feed wires direct to good earth point (chassic etc )
this way go make full use of larger wires you may find the earth is still limiting output slightly, it may not be much as the earth wire is proberly shorter than original positive wires to lights use the original earth for relays and new heavy earth for lights |

Thanks, will upgrade the earth for lights as well to same point on chassis - checked continuity and resistance on the point I used and it was 0.2 Ohms so seems fine
