I'm no expert but it looks like white after 1996:

Thanks for looking into this, but still a bit confused about their question about brown or white connector... Anyway I answered to Liz of "landreiziger" that I have a 2009 model Puma 2.4.... We will see which switch they add to the package....

Good morning all. Thought this might interest you all;

Ordered on the 21st Jan arrived on the 28th Jan, although the estimated delivery date was 28th Feb. The loom is of a good quality with ample protection for the wiring. The relays are not the clear versions shown in the advert, but that does not matter to me. The fuse holder is not water resistant, but with a little amalgamating tape it will be. I will install the loom in the next few days and let you know how it goes. I am skeptical about the potential increase in emitted light, but am very much looking forward to having the LR switch protected from overheating. If it was me I would be changing out the relays for European ones.
Also looks like it only takes a feed "in" from one headlight not each one. However for the money it's certainly a good starting point 
What happens to the dim-dip function (where fitted) with these kits? Do the relays latch (bringing on the headlights) or not during dim-dip (sidelights only on and engine running)? Martin Edit: little more positivity 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

The Landreiziger harness also takes feed from one headlight but I doubt that would ever be a problem. Each light is fused separately and the connectors and relays seem high quality. Another good thing about this system is that it only take a few minutes to reconnect the original harness.
I only know the head/sidelights function exactly as normal. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

AFAIK most "off the shelf" headlamp wiring loom kits all take the feed from one of the stock headlamp connectors. As to the dim dip I will report back as soon as I have installed it. And like Ze says the beauty of these kits is the ability to return the vehicle back to stock very quickly. |

The issue with dim dip and these relay looms would be if the dim dip voltage is on the borderline of operation of the relay. A slight voltage fluctuation could cause relay chatter and flashing headlights 
I'm tempted to buy two and use one on each side, stripping out the excess loom from each - and fitting replacement relays. That way both headlamps aren't reliant on the supply to a single one of them. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

.... Sounds like something related to Asian cooking, so had to wikipedia it to find out what it exactly means. Got it now, it has been a strictly UK feature for some time until it got banned, so presume newer vehicles do not have that feature anymore, and I have nothing to worry about when the landreiziger loom will arrive here....

But no Defender here has that dim-dip feature..... Read below what I found on Wikipedia about dim-dip in the UK. Hard to believe that Land Rover with the Td5 in the years 2000, and with the Puma as of 2007 would still be fitting such a resistor, no? Unless someone can confirm that also after 2000, Land Rover still installed that feature on certain Defenders. In any case, nowhere in continental Europe have I ever seen a Defender (old or new) with such dim-dip lights functioning....
In 1988, the European Commission successfully prosecuted the UK government in the European Court of Justice, arguing that the UK requirement for dim-dip was illegal under EC directives prohibiting member states from enacting vehicle lighting requirements not contained in pan-European EC directives. LR used to fit dim dip on N1 vehicles and electric manual levelling on M1 vehicles - you had one or the other. My '07 DC had dim dip. I don't know what happens now they're all N1.
Note that dim dip hasn't been "banned". What happened was that the UK government made its fitment a legal requirement and Europe (in a rare - possibly unique - moment of sense) ruled that this was illegal since dim dip is not a requirement in Europe. It remains entirely legal for manufacturers to fit dim dip if they choose to do so. It is a rather useless feature and it is now known that running modern headlight bulbs at less than fill power significantly reduces their life expectancy. |

Blackwolf, so on model year 2009 and onward Defenders which do not have this dim-dip function, is there any chance that this resistor is still there? Or to ask it in a different way, any Defender which does not have dim-dip function, could it have this resistor sitting anywhere in the wiring?
