I think its important to keep things in perspective! Yes its disappointing that water is coming in past the seals, however is this caused by rain or by some over enthusiastic jet washing! Either way Lewis shouldn`t allow it to spoil the excitement of owning a new car! (imho) Too many people on here would have Lewis turn into Mr Angry and burn his new Landrover in the dealers forecourt in protest if they had their way! (again imho) Leaks can be looked at when the Landrover is in for servicing or other work. Who would want to be deprived of their new vehicle so soon after getting it? Also you want to have a good relationship with your dealer as you will get much better service from them that way!
In reality any hand built vehicle that has a build construction (note I didn`t say quality!) like a Defender is going to suffer from water ingress more than a vehicle with a one piece bodyshell. Having said that water ingress into cars in general is probably more common than people think! Just look at the number of cars running around today with steamed up windows. Its caused in most cases by damp carpets or spare wheel wells full of water! When I worked in a Renault dealership years ago I lost count of the number of customers who brought their car in complaining that the heated rear window wasn`t working when in actual fact it was working fine! Its just that there was no way it was ever going to clear the amount of water that was on the back window which in turn was caused by a boot full of water! Don`t let this problem (or other forum members!) spoil your enjoyment of your new Defender! Do you have a wish list for goodies for Christmas or a long term plan for the future in terms of mods for your Defender? Enjoy! Thumbs Up

As my Land Rover dealer told me this week - even he is surprised at how quickly Defenders are coming off the Solihull production line this month. Defenders that were planned for delivery in January are arriving pre-Christmas.

Maybe they are in an all out rush to clear the decks before the Christmas and New Year holidays - if so I trust quality control is not the first casualty?

When I take mine all so white to be cleaned a jet wash directed at the door seals leak - I get a spray of water - but in 2,500 miles in normal use rain etc I've not got wet, so just try to make sure I avoid direct jet wash to the door seals

White is so cool both when clean & they look good dirty like they are meant to be Very Happy Thumbs Up 2020 P300 HSE

Too be honest with you all it hasn't put me off the Land Rover at all, at the end of the day its a defender, they all have their faults, I've already been thinking of ways to stop the problems.

And as i a forum member has quoted before "you never own a defender you look after it"

Also. i have no carpets or ply wood in the back yet so its just the tub, maybe your defenders are leaking water in the rear tub you just don't know it…

But anyways.

Happy Days

Today i decided to call into the dealers to see what they can do to the water leak.

They're ordering new seals for the doors, and sealing the underside. So i pick it up tomorrow afternoon. So job its all good.

They've gave me a nice 13plate 90 black XS to drive, must admit, i like my white one better…

Ive had a few spare hours today so I've did a few little mods

Im not a fan of cubby boxes, so i wanted to make some thing to hide all my electronics when I'm not using them.
To get access behind the storage compartment i just need to move the top of the seat forward.

Mounted the a second reverse light, I'm going to wire this up to the reverse light but also make it so i can switch it on

Looking good - Interested in your I-pad fitting - how did you wire up the power supply/USB connections?

The iPad mount is made by RAM, i have just used three self tapper screws to secure it.

I still need to wire the USB socket up. But short term, I'm just going to connect it straight to the battery with a fuse on the live. Hopefully that will be done tomorrow

I have a 12way fuse board, i just can't decide on the best place to put it yet. Any ideas?

Aux Fuse box is normally good in the battery box Thumbs Up

I hope you get your rubber mat alright, the Liverpool LR Centre as they used to call themselves couldn't organise a Censored up in a brewery! They're in driving distance from me, but I don't use them anymore!

What LEDs have you got to go in the grille? An engine to TDi for!

I think I'm going to mount the fuse board behind the passenger seat, I had it there on my old defender. Quite a good location I think.

I bought the mat from a company on ebay, I was just using that company as an example. But will know not too use it in the future. Thanks Very Happy

I have some made by britax.

I have 4, two for the front and two for the rear even though I might change them for these

And mount them on the inside pointing out the rear quarter windows

Nice choice! We've got some of the second type in some of our trucks. Very well made and robust!

I got too choose from three number plates Wink

Yeah it's our pit, 80ft long. We have a dairy and transport company. we run 100 trucks so a decent workshop is needed! One more good thing about owning a dairy is we have a stock of stainless steel nuts and bolts. So the defender over time will be having a stainless steel make over!
