Yeah, I only have 1 good engine left, and no plans to kill it.
The original, weaker unit did 128k miles, it breathed heavily, it lacked power, also because the boost diaphragm had failed and I just plugged the tube , it ran any kind of combustible liquid, but it still started on the button. Indeed I do feel like is a bit to late now. Not worried about pistons, cheap to replace if the worse happens... but good heads are scarce. My engine building skills lacks experience.... but I took the time to check everything. Fingers crossed now. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

So after painting the inside of the heater box, I assembled the box, less the blower housing and the radiator and applied the finishing coat on all parts. This way I get less bare unpainted rivets. The flaps got new foam... so only remains to fully assemble and install on the bulkhead.

Looks amazing! Did you mask over the genuine parts label? Lovely touch keeping that! James

Yes, I masked that one
I do not know if the reproductions could last as well as this one... but this label is in amazingly good condition would have been a pity to destroy. I was tempted to gently peel it off and then reattach, done that with a few other smaller decals/labels, but was too scared that it would tear. So out came the masking tape 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Finally got to be able to do something on the 90, and since another forum member was asking about the reverse plunger on the gear lever, I thought why not do that as mine was still off the gearbox.
During the dismantling process, the anti rattle plunger flew away, and will never be seen again. So I turned a new one from Delrin. Hope will be just fine. Re greased up and re assembled and ready to go back on the gearbox 😀 Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Short update.. removed the seat box again, as had forgotten to re glue to heat insulation foam. Original foam going back in
Click image to enlarge So was a good opportunity to install the gear lever assembly too. Click image to enlarge Dry fitting the radiator. This is an aftermarket radiator. Looks like it fits ok. Just needed to tap the holes where the fan shroud attached too. Will get a thin coat of black paint... I think it will look better in black than the shiny aluminum. So the bulkhead diaphragm is done too. Re glued the original heat insulation and just located in situe. Will wait until the paint has hardened more before I put all the screws in.

I had galvanized the bonnet stay, but since it was hot dipped, I had to remove the rivet that acts as a hinge, for obvious reason.
Had a little time on my hand so fabricated a Chicago bolt from stainless for a hinge. Turned out quite good. Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Unfortunately no updates on this since May
But truly not much to update... enjoying beach time... except... Thanks to a friend that needed some galvanizing to be done, I quickly cleaned off some small parts, and not so small too.. and took them for hot dipping. I now have the original bumper looking shiny. More importantly, it is already showing some nice spangle (the crystal like patterns). I have a galvanized bumper from britpart, and although good quality, the zinc lacks the finish that I like and wanted. Have some other parts galvanized too, for finishing assembly of the seatbox, such as seatbelt brackets. Hope to be able to post some pictures soon once all the extra zinc is cleaned off. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |
