So here is the original bumper that has been galvanized. Plus a few small parts.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Decided to paint the radiator. The new radiator is aluminum, but I prefer a black radiator on an old Land Rover, just as they used to be when they were made from copper. After taking this photo, I realized that the headers need some cleaning (I masked them). Bumper looks tidy. How much have you got left to do on the resto now?

Thanks. I literally polished the bumper before taking it to being hot dipped. Unfortunately the guys were very busy, so they did not pay very good attention and there are some dull lines on it, I guess the lift from the zinc bath was not so smooth.
Well, regarding body panels still need to do the windscreen frame and hinges, the rear side panels, which I got a spare set that will be cut to fit sliding windows (I will be keeping the original panels intact), the rear door, which needs a fair amount of welding , and the roof. Mechanically, a few parts still to assemble to finish off the engine, mainly timing belt cover and water pump to install, and alternator that needs a good clean up and service and PAS pump. Still need to do both swivels for front axle, calipers which I am hoping to service, and refurbish the prop shafts. And install rear brakes (shoes, slave cylinders and pipes from G valve backwards). Does not sound like a lot, but the speed that I am going with... might take a little while I think the small little stuff will slow the progress even further. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Indeed, will try to avoid doing the mistake and rush the final bits.
Indeed it was hard work, but hope that the hardest is over. Can’t believe that it is almost 4 years since it started 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Forgot that I had also galvanized the slam panel braces. So some etch primer and painting later, they came out dull enough.. a bit glossier than I was aiming for.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge A mystery I had been ‘worried’ about is solved. On old LandRovers, the seats bolt to nut plates that are riveted to the seat box. I have the middle seat, so was expecting 12 nut plates. But only had 8 nut plates. So why 4 missing? Well found out today. The rear of the middle seat, rear left of driver and rear right of passenger take a standard nut from bottom side. There is no 1/8” hole for the rivet to hold the nut plate for those holes Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge A little disappointment too Found that the heat shielding fell off. The glue I used stuck really well to the paint but not to the foam. Wonder if the foam is well impregnated with oil from its previous smokey life Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Been a while since I got my hands dirty on my Land Rover
But decided to resume with the swivel housings. First one dismantled... needs quite some cleaning, especially the swivelling part has some corrosion that needs a chisel to chip off. Guess will put them through some electrolysis. But the chroming on the ball is in good nick. Surprised to find 2 retaining rings for the ball seal. So started yesterday evening with the swivel housings in the electrolysis bath to dissolve the rust.
A good wire brush on the angle grinder, and then I thought why not give then a thin layer of zinc. So now ready for painting.. but thats for another day. Before and after zinc plating. So 'all' swivel related parts have been painted, only to realize, while cleaning the spray gun, that the brake pipe brackets that are fixed with the top swivel pin bolts were still attached to the brake calipers
So I will have to do those before I start assembly. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Left hand swivel assembly in progress.
The top swivel pin is only temporarily fitted. Already have a swivel preload of 3.5-4.5kg, but difficult to measure with the spring balance as it tends to oscillate. Top pin is without shims, and measured a gap of 0.80mm with feeler gauges. So that would be a good start for the shims I guess.
