Thank you Clayton, was busy with some small stuff around the 90... getting the remaining of the wires in, like reverse light, fuel sender, got the fuel filter and tubing (but awaiting for a series type lift pump, as the old one, the diaphragm has hardened and the 'new' engine has the 200tdi type of lift pump - different location of inlet/outlet ports). I am planning to test the injection pump and injectors before I install the head. Got the hard brake pipes installed, got the front springs, dampers and turrets installed too. And accelerator cable, brake vacuum etc. Forgot to take pictures though.
It is quite hard to remember where every clip was, and if the cables were above or below the pipes.. those kind of head scratching. Today got the starter motor and a few small parts painted 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Your really making progress with the little things which always take up more time than they should do
It's always best to test before as things could go very wrong 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

So yesterday collected a bit of Landrover parts from the galvanizers. They have been hot dipped. And boy they look beautiful.
Click image to enlarge The eagle eyed can surely detect that some parts are not from 1988. Thats because I finally fed up of closing my eyes every time I open the Puma bonnet. So a bit to TLC going to the front end of the Puma. Just in case you question how bad it was, here are some pics. PS. My good friend, he also travelled with me when picking up the Puma, saw me dismantling, and he started searching online for what mental condition I might have. Unsure if there is anything like Rustiphobia. Fuel system is primed all the way to injector pipes and so far seems to be good. Had a small leak from the outlet connection of the lift pump, but a little extra nip seems to have solved it. I guess I was scared of stripping the threads as it is a chinesium alloy owe and getting the lift pump installed meant I had to take the mounting plate from the original engine (the new engine had the 200tdi type of lift pump) as the depths are different.
Click image to enlarge So next will be to get the cylinder head sorted....and once that is done and installed, I was thinking I would fire it up for a few seconds without coolant, so no water pump etc. so I can also check the timing belt. But unsure what to do with the oil cooler ports. Blank them off, or fit the radiator, which would then be in the way and afraid of accidentally damaging it. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Glad that I tested the fuel system. Found a small leak from the fuel injection pump drive shaft seal. Will get a new seal and see how it goes again.
In the meantime, paid some attention to the cylinder head. After a good cleanup, lapped the valves, checked all seating all good. So here, 6 more to go: Click image to enlarge All valves in. Some collets seem to have a mind of their own Click image to enlarge New swirl chambers are in too Click image to enlarge So now it is time to fit the head on to the engine..... to be continued. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Thanks Col.
Managed to find some time, and put the head on. Last peep at the pistons before closing them in. I hope I do not need to see them again any time soon 🤪 Head bolts only nipped up as still need to clean and install the rocker shaft.
