Painted a couple of Labcraft Astro lights (why don’t they do them in black?) and got one fitted above the rear door today.
The other one is for the nearside to light up under the awning.

Thanks, I know it wasn’t a Wolf Defender but I like the look of the tools on the bonnet, plus I’m not sure I’d reach them if I mounted them on the roof rack (when I get one)

A lot of time has been spent trying to design the interior, we have done a lot caravanning so that helps I’m sure, we just need to shrink it all down to fit the space available! 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html

I'm sure that it helps a lot that you have done caravanning, so hopefully you can shrink it all down in the right places Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Seeing the way youre doing everything and bringing it back to new again makes me want to take mine to bits and do the same. Looks great. Hopefully one day i'll have the space and facility to do so. Thumbs Up

Thanks Clayton, there’s no denying it’s a small space to work with!

Thanks LandymanStefan, it sure is nice to see everything new again and whilst stripping it down I was glad I’d made the decision to do it, it’s surprising how it much worse it is than it looked!
Good luck with yours when you get round to doing it Thumbs Up 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html

It's all looking good. Quick question, how have you routed the wires for the labcraft light over the back door? We use an Alu-Cab roof as well and I was toying with trying to put a rear view camera there but I don't think there would be sufficient space for that - I appreciate camera wires are thicker than those for a labcraft light mind.

Regarding cooking, we tend to use the rear door. The awning (again, we have the same as you - excellent piece of kit) is so quick to deploy that there is always cover. We just have a drop down shelf which has been there for years but, since fitting the roof, have been thinking about an MSS cooker housing.

I have to agree with Wyvern as well - having a pop top has certainly changed our camping. I started looking at the raising roof idea quite a few years ago, watched the development of the Icarus roof with interest, but could never justify the cost. So glad we eventually coughed up for one Very Happy

Thanks Tony, appreciated Thumbs Up

The Labcraft wires go through the Icarus roof section into the rear. Although the roof is double skinned at that particular place on the inside you can access the wires down the inside of it as per this pic...

Any size hole could be drilled into that bit as long as your happy doing that and it’s sealed well!

Funny you mention the rear door cooking, this my current job...
Cutting a piece of aluminium to fix to the door to bolt the Front Runner drop down shelf on to. To keep it neater I’m removing the rear wiper so the shelf doesn’t need spacing out. I’ll not be able to see out of the window anyway and having a rear view camera instead. I’m considering removing the glass and replacing with an Ali panel too.

As easy as the awning is to deploy I think we’d still like to have a hob inside as well though for quick stops in bad weather for a cuppa etc.
We’re looking forward to putting it to use next year although I think uk camping will be very busy! 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html

Thanks for the pics. It's the amount of space in that section I was concerned about and whether there was sufficient room to run the cable for the camera - looking at your photo., there probably is Smile . A job for the nicer weather I suspect... We tend to use a jet boil for brews on the go. This has been used sat in the back when it's minging outside, on the back door - even on the floor in a travelodge Very Happy

Ah yes, plenty of room, just over 30mm gap between the two panels. Thumbs Up
We’ll need to make a decision as to how to outfit the interior soon, we keep changing our minds! We do have the Alpkit version of the Jetboil though so will have that with us for back up. 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html

Our's has evolved over the years as we had a maggi on the roof for ten years. Plenty of MSS boxes (flippers and drawers) inside that have served us well. Now that we sleep in the car, the inside will need to be tweaked once again and version 4 is being toyed with!

Looking VERY good !!!
We are looking forward to a few weekends away in the summer and I expect you are too!
It takes a few trips away to shake everything down and see what works in the real world - then tweak and tweak and tweak !

looking forward to the seeing the insides complete and out on the road !

Thumbs Up

Regarding your comments on having a cooker inside - we had a fixed sink and cooker in the previous dormobile set up - it worked well but my partner wanted to have a more flexible system so as we can cook inside or outside depending on the weather/ location - so having a fixed gas cylinder out side with the ability to connect the gas inside or outside has been very good. We have one cooker but can use it inside for British weather or outside for more alfresco stye when in Europe or the occasional sunny summer days here.
Our water is fed to a tap in the back door with a portable collapsable basin which also works well and has a lot of flexibility too.

Having had both fixed and moveable systems, the movable one seems to be coming out on top most of the time - with the only down side of having to connect it up to make a quick cuppa - but that is the only down side that we have found to date.

Thank you Wyvern Thumbs Up

Yes, very much looking forward to getting out in it, we’ve booked a week in Pembrokeshire and a week in the Dales in July so time is getting tight!

I had all sorts of plans for the interior fit out but with time and money against us I’ve gone down the hardwood plywood route. Will see how we get on with the layout when in use, if ok it can stay like that if not it can easily be ripped out and re-designed. 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html
