I've done Norway and all the way to Nordkapp and it is a great trip.

France > Belgium > Netherlands > Germany > Denmark > Sweden and then Norway

Route back took in Finland and more of Sweden, then into the same route as up.

A super trip and I'd recommend to anyone. Ended up doing over 6,000 miles with a few detours, etc, but enjoyed all of it.

Sounds exactly like the trip we’re thinking of!

What time off year would be best for it and how long did it take you? 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html

I did it in May, which meant there was still snow on the ground once you got into the Arctic Circle but nothing that caused issues for driving (in other words, roads were clear but still snow on the ground in places).

We were lucky and had a lot of good weather, with few rainy days. Took a lot of scenic routes and back roads, which means that you cover less distance than motorways but the views are worth it.

Did it in under three weeks which did mean there were a few long days but it is still up there with my favourite drives I've done.

You could do it in two weeks and anything over gives you more time to divert and take in some of the sights along the way. Norway in particular has roads where you go around a bend and think 'that is the best view ever!' only to drive a mile and find yourself saying the same thing over and over.

The Atlantic Ocean Road is a must drive; as is the Lærdal Tunnel.

Little winter project…
Fitted a Webasto Thermo Top Vevo off a Discovery 4 for engine pre heating and providing hot water for a shower via a heat exchanger.
The Vevo needs an aftermarket control board fitting as it won’t work without the D4 Canbus system, the board is about £150 shipped from Hungary and the heaters can be picked up from scrap yards on eBay for £50-100

I fitted the newer type washer bottle under the wing to free up the old washer bottle bracket and fitted the heater to the old bracket.

Piped up from the output side of the heater matrix to the circulation pump (which tends to come with the heater off a D4) to the Webasto then out from the Webasto to the 26 plate SWEP heat exchanger (put inside an insulated jacket) then out from the heat exchanger back into the return on the engine.

The Webasto with the aftermarket board just operates via a 12 volt supply, switch it on and it heats the water to 75c, shuts down then starts back up when the water gets to 60c There is also an output to trigger a relay for powering the blower fan so will defrost the windows and heat the cabin.

The cold water into the heat exchanger comes from the onboard water tank and pump and outputs via a thermostatic mixer valve to a Bullfinch shower outlet.

I’ve also fitted a switch to power the circulation pump when the heater isn’t on to just circulate the engine hot water through the heat exchanger to have a shower whilst the engine is still hot.

Fitted a twin servo and the LOF power boost kit a while ago and it has improved the braking performance.

This entire build is absolutely amazing! Extremely jealous!

Please can you let me know where you got your solar panels from? Are you happy with them?

And please can you let me know where you got the two top boxes from (and their rough size)?

Thank you!

Thanks Clayton, yes, still enjoy using it, albeit not as much as we’d like but its there when needed! 1997 Ex-MOD 110, Pop Top Camper, build thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72352.html

Thank you, appreciated!

The solar panels are from Renogy and are 160 watts each, doesn’t look like they do the 160w ones anymore but they have worked perfectly since installing them, no complaints at all.

The top boxes are from Landtrekker uk. Again not in stock currently but might be getting more in.
They come in a grey colour, I sprayed them black but have been great, the lids are sealed well and don’t let water in.
Screen shot of the size below.
Cheers
