Fitted these today - can confirm the flanged LR nuts fit the recess with no issues, as you say Darren - spanner/socket access is tight. Rgds.

Grills Revisited
I think I'm getting more fickle as I get older, as today I replaced the front grill again. This time, I've gone with a standard LR grill but primed and painted in the same fashion as the headlight surrounds (plastic primer, two coats of regular primer, two coats of satin black and one of lacquer). This gives a more stock look that hopefully won't fade in the sunlight:

Secured with stainless nuts and bolts to prevent it being easily removed.

All I need to do now is work out how I'm going to mount my cast alloy grill badge.

Whilst I had it apart, I also replaced all of the nylon bolts securing the lower grill with stainless equivalents:

I liked the nylon bolts as they were black but they'd faded terribly over the last 2+ years. Darren

Front Grill Surround Stainless Brackets
Whilst I had the front grill apart, I also took the opportunity to replace the two small brackets that support the lower sides of the grill surround. Like so many parts, these two brackets are very poorly protected and eventually rust away:

I found somebody on eBay selling stainless replacements:

I don't know whether they are stamped out or laser cut but they benefited from a few minutes with a file to the edges. I also made some impromptu gaskets from duct tape to separate them from the aluminium inner faces of the wings to which they are bolted and provided some nice new M8 stainless bolts:

The brackets are bolted to two captive nuts let into the wings. Despite being M8 thread, the existing bolts had 10mm heads, probably because access is so tight behind the A/C condenser frame. I had to remove the lower bolts from the latter to allow enough movement to get a 13mm socket in place to fasten the new bolts:

I had to re-use the existing spire nuts on the ends of the brackets as I didn't have any of the right size in stock.

EDIT: Next time I had the grill off, I replaced the rusty spire nuts and large self tappers with some nice zinc plated chimney nuts and stainless button head bolts:

Whilst only a small detail, they're another step in my ongoing mission to improve on the parts that Land Rover skimped on Rolling Eyes

On the list of future jobs will be tidying up the A/C condenser frame... Darren

Well you’re on page 39 of your mission already. I wonder how far you will go? Clearly you will hit three figures, but will this biblical mission, that could replace the Labours of Hercules, take you to four? Shocked

Steal away Very Happy

I am quite obsessive about separating stuff, whether it be different metals or things from paintwork. I didn't take a picture but I even put foam gaskets on all of the contact points on the rear of the new grill. Probably unnecessary but it makes me happy. Darren

I think you are right to be concerned Darren. I just removed my RH front wing. The Safari snorkel has three fixings with large stainless washers on the inside of the wing. Where each washer has been is a nice circle of aluminium corrosion that has develop due to the almost non-existent paint on the inside of the wing. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Boost Alloy Wheels
So, today was a big day as I had a new set of wheels fitted. This time, just for the hell of it, I've gone for a set of Boost alloys, which I've had refurbished and repainted in Orkney grey to match the body and finished off with a set of black wheel nuts:

I've always liked Boosts but because they're the 'standard' alloy, they're far more likely to get swapped out for something else. I thought having them painted in body colour would be something a bit different though and I'm really pleased with the way that they've come out.

The spare is now safely under a wheel cover and the Wolf wheels that they've replaced will be up for sale soon! Darren
