Click image to enlarge 2007 Defender 110 County Double-cab, TDCi. Between Axminster and Honiton, 08:13, Sunday 4th December 2016. The only engine parts to have been replaced are several VCVs, the vac pump (due to the oil leakage), the water pump (gland failure), and the engine harness has needed repairing due to chafing problems. One intercooler pipe has been replaced due to a split. The vehicle has been running a BAS map for most of this mileage. Starter, turbo, alternator, PAS pump, fuel pump, injectors, injector seals, fuel rail, and all engine sensors are original, as is the serpentine belt. As far as the smooth running of the engine is concerned, the only problems have been caused by turbo actuator failure due to wiring harness damage (on one occasion), and fuel 'issues' on three occasions, which have all been down to VCV failure. Away from the engine, in this mileage we have got through four clutch driven plates, two front and two rear differentials, one set of front halfshafts, two sets of rear halfshafts and flanges, one wheel bearing (offside rear). Front and rear calipers and disks have been replaced once. The transfer box has also been replaced once. Amazingly the gearbox intermediate output shaft is the original. The vehicle is now 20k miles onto its third set of tyres, the incredible, everlasting BFG KM2s. |

Mine is now just coming up to 250k, just about all the major engine parts are original.
I think that noworries4x4 on this forum is now around 370k but I can't remember if the engine is original or not. I don't offhand know of anyone with a higher mileage on a Puma, but I am sure that there are many. |

It’s good to hear of remapped trucks with big miles, gives me confidence there is some capacity in the standard engine to take more power.
It’s also interesting hearing the VASTLY different distances covered on sets of tyres!! I’ve done 70k in 6 years and am on my third set of Goodyear Wranglers. To get the kinds of wear stated out of BFGs I can only assume they must be made of the same stuff they put on the underside of the shuttle for re-entry!!! 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2 |

Here is an unlikely thing with no effort or intervention on my part.
I posted a couple of weeks ago that my 90 hit 30000 it occurred on my drive, which at the time made me smile. The average journey I do in it is probably around 25 miles as I generally only use it for days out. Yesterday I got into my other car which has a daily to and from work related journey of 24 miles and noticed the milometer said 30000. I guess the odds of that are 25x24 or 600/1 or am I doing the probability thing all wrong. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

250000 miles , 201000 miles , 325000 km , 280000 km!!! Well I must say there are some amazing mileages on here! I´m truly impressed and encouraged to see that humble Puma Defenders can go a long way, if looked after.
The Puma Defender is often criticised for poor build quality and inbuilt weaknesses. This is particularly an issue on a vehicle whose robustness and longevity are the cornerstones of its image. A mechanically sympatheitic owner will be rewarded for his behavior, and this thread shows that. Well done, keep going! 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTs, Recaro CSs, anorak, wellingtons |
