Sounds pretty good to me, & it'll sound even better when "the pedal's to the metal", under load!

Hi Andy
Happy new year to you too I've spent the best part of my Christmas holiday working on the series 3! I've had all sorts of problems from a non functional dash (poor earth in hazard switch) This took a long time to find the culprit! Amazing how one earth in a switch can cause no end of grief, To number 5 cylinder with a stripped spark plug thread.... All good now though, which is a relief! I managed to get a reverse spark plug thread tap, which was an amazingly simple but clever tool, Other than that it would have been a head off job. All things going back together nicely, Just 2 outer wings, and doors to paint, and cab roof. Fitted some sound deadening to the bulkhead, and footwells, Decided to carpet the whole cab like a Defender. I'm going to set myself a goal and aim for an MOT at end of Jan! Coming along nicely. I see you have some (K&N ?) filters fitted. Did you run it with the normal air filter/box previously and if so are the K&N,s much noisier? The reason I ask is I was considering these rather than the huge air filter arrangement on my V8 90.

Hi Ian,
Have you considered a Wright Off a Road/ Exmoor matting system? Quite expensive I know but I've used them in several defenders and have been impressed with both sound and heat deadening, also hard wearing and easy to clean. Andrew |

I found one of those reverse tools too......didnt know they even existed.....but glad also that they do
K&N's allow you to hear those SU's sucking the mixture |

Believe it or not, I have just brought an original air box assembly for it! I'm not a big fan of the aftermarket air filters, they were only EBay specials, I'm not sure how they would cope with muddy water? I think the induction noise on a run would get a bit tedious, it's going to be bad enough listening to the noise at the back! plus I've read on the V8 forum that there should be a slight restriction with the SUs to run better? When you look at the size of air intake on a standard set up, it makes you wonder? Andrew, good to hear from you. (See your doing well with the CLR appearances!) I did look at the Exmoor set up, but I've chopped the bulkhead around quite a bit, meaning I would have to drastically take the knife to it! Romadog, Glad some clever sod thought of that! I've had a stripped thread in one before many years ago, and was always waiting for it to blow the plug out I'm not sure if it was like that before, or when I changed the plugs it picked up taking the old plug out? Luckily it was just the first few turns that were damaged. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Cheers Greeni.
Happy new year to you too I've got a Gunson colour tune at work, it's running way too rich at the moment, So I will get that sorted next weekend. I put 25ltrs of petrol in on Christmas Eve, Gauge is now showing empty, with the fuel light on. I've only had it on tickover not ever been out of first!... 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Great progress Ian,
Work for a rest on Tuesday!! Ali heads stripping is always a nemesis I guess a little anti-seize and correct torque will help but I have still stripped threads. Andy Working towards Carry on camping! |
