I have been using supermarket diesel since my Puma was brand new and i filled up with Shell normal diesel and it is like someone has pinched my old engine and replaced it with a new quieter, smoother engine... it pulls up through the gears in a totally different way and the gear change is so much smoother... No more Mr Sainsburys for me! 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

If that's the case, your engine could also do with a bottle of diesel injector cleaner or 2SO to clear the cobwebs -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

I use "Forte" every year it is just that here in Scotland supermarket diesel comes from Holland or Belgium and BP, Shell and Esso is made totally by BP in Grangemouth and it has a higher calorific value but i never realised it would be so noticeable. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

I think you'll find it makes a very small difference, as you will notice when you buy one, round town and motorway isn't that much difference compared with lesser cars. Freelander for instance; it is possible to get really good figures on a long run but takes a big nose dive in town. Whereas the Defenders figures don't really increase that much on a long run due to the brick through air streamlining. Towing is when the engine really works and thats to me when the MPG drops. As you can see from the quoted figures most mpg are very near to 27mpg overall. Original Member Pie n Pea Club. 110 HCPU Tipper |

I've noticed that tyres have a big effect, far more so than on my previous 90's. With more road biased tyres I can get 33-35 mpg if I'm careful, but with more aggressive treads I get
