No design as yet. Not 100% I understand, as removing the carry rings I thought simply allows for alloys to be fitted?
My savings on me painting it and sanding it etc may go towards 2 sawtooth alloys and spacers to match my car 
I have two continental tyres to match the car ready |

Yep - I thought the same. I am waiting for my Sankey to come back and then I will test fit the SVX alloys. Will let you know.
If the SVX alloys fit then the saw tooths will also. If not then I will design and have some custom spacers made that will have the bearing caps built in. My 10th Land Rover, but my first Defender. |

So this evening after borowing my dads angle grinder, I tried to remove the carrying rings from one of the hubs.. I've read with most alloys these will not fit with these fitted,
Much harder than I though, but it came off. However leaving it like this will allow grit and road crud to get in when I refit. What could I use to cover this? Yes, you will need need a cap. I am making two for my mk3. If you could do me a favour and measure the PCD of the cap bolts (waiting for my trailer to come back) and let me know and I will whip up the drawings and will send to you. My 10th Land Rover, but my first Defender.

No power in the garage the trailers in so phone flash as torch.. Click image to enlarge ^this shows the tape in the wrong place the measurements below are right the picture was just to show.. I measured 16cm across from one side to the other and center of one bolt to center of the other 9.5cm does this help? |

Thanks, but I believe you are showing the PCD of the main wheel nuts. To make the cap I need the PCD of the centre cap bolts (the 6 bolts). If you measure one bolt centre to opposite bolt centre, we can work out the PCD. My 10th Land Rover, but my first Defender.

This is exactly what I need bit for the hub bolts yes. If you could also measure the stud diameter and also the hole diameter in the middle I can design the cap from these dimensions. Thanks Stacey007. My 10th Land Rover, but my first Defender.

I put this together tonight. However, I have a concern about the protrusion of the cap flange allowing the wheel to press again the bearing cap and not the face of the hub. You can get around this by building the cap into a spacer (essentially a wheel spacer with solid centre. I will not be able to confirm until I get my trailer back and I can measure the hub. The wheel must mate with the wheel hub therefore forcing the fact that an adapter may be required if the bearing cap flange protrudes over the face of the wheel hub.

Not much as gardening took over... Anyway removed a wheel and went from Click image to enlarge to this which I think is looking a bit better. Still lots more to do and more underseal but I wanted to paint something ! Click image to enlarge |
