Tiger is correct in that when you've got the headlamps on and you use the flash, you get both the main and dipped on.

Does that matter though? It's still less than the fuse rating and it's not for very long.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, apologies if it has.

I have been using the Red Bison loom for 3 months without any issues.

Monday, no headlights at all, not even when flashed Shocked
Tuesday they were working again without any intervention on my part.

Today, they stopped again. Just checked the fuses and relays under the steering wheel, all OK.

Had a play with the two relays in the RB loom and they had both come lose, enough to stop the headlights working. Pushed them fully home and I have lights again. I will have a good look this evening to see what is going on.

Probably just need the female recptors closing a bit to get a better fit.

Just a similar problem with the main fuse.

Bob, Dave

I had a similar problem in my trip to Patagonia. Relay holder went loose in the contact area with the realy and burn all my spares relays in a quite isolated area Evil or Very Mad .

Finally I took out the relay holder and made a direct connection (so I can turn on the ligths without to tur on the car).

It works like that since February without any trouble (just remember to turn off the ligths).
Will be a good idea to replace the relay holder for one of a better quality and rewiring the ligths.

Cheers! Eduardo

Fitted a Landreiziger kit today that I've had for ages, all went well, very easy to fit, just a couple of questions...

I guess as previously stated, there is now no dip before headlights, there's only dipped headlights with this kit when the ignition is off? The indicator stalk supplied is exactly the same as standard and makes no difference.

Also, a couple of hours after locking up the vehicle - the alarm is going off !!
Is there any obvious reason for this? Have I done something wrong or has anyone else had a problem like this?

the switch is the same , no need to change it unless there is a problem with the old one

you should have
ign off , just park/sidelights
ign on , sidelights , dipped headlights , full beam headlights

no dim dip as you need to disconnect it ( if its fitted , not all defenders had it )

alarm going off , not sure about that one , really its retrace your steps and check if you knocked something

Cheers Munch,

I've got as follows....

Ignition off with light switch in position 1 or 2 - small sidelights only
Ignition on - with light switch in position 1 - small sidelights and dipped headlights
Ignition on - with light switch in position 2 - small sidelights and dipped headlights

So, in position 1 or 2 on the stalk makes no difference - is that correct? It used to go from sidelights in position 1, then when pressed to position 2 for dipped headlights?
Also, is this ok for an MOT - is there not a need for sidelights only with ignition on when doing an MOT?

I'll go over the wiring again today and check there's no way I've dome anything wrong or it's grounding to earth somewhere, just wondered if anyone has had the same issue?

sounds like you need to disconnect dim dip resister

this bit is wrong from your post
" Ignition on - with light switch in position 1 - small sidelights and dipped headlights " ( should be sidelights only )

as said disconnect dim dip resister , easy to do and not something you done wrong as said some have dim dip system fitted some don't

you don't need dim dip for mot just sides / dipped / full

What you have is correct Lambley, the headlights are inhibited with the ignition off. This so you don't leave your lights on and run the battery flat.

Has anyone put a flywheel diode on the relays in the kit?
When I change from full beam to dipped, or from dipped to off the indicator (<and>) warning lights briefly come on and I was wondering if that was from the relay coils.

Ah yes, my mistake munch, I misread it. Time to bridge the dim dip relay.

Thanks munch and mo, I've read up on removing and bridging the dim dip relay so I'll give that a go over the weekend, how is it that one small job leads to 3 others?!! Confused
As for the alarm going off - that's sorted, after it went off randomly a few times I sat in the back for a few mins and spotted a huge spider living beside the interior movement sensor, it's not happened since the spider was relocated Thumbs Up

think the quicker option is just unplug the resister under the wing
