took it back to Wales for a few weeks whilst I have some work done on my house, only averaged 24mpg per scan gauge at 70mph on the M6 but went up to 40 MPG on the speed restriction on the M54 and overall managed 29 mpg. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Done today, well Sunday actually
Fitted wing top chequer plate which turned out to ba slightly trickier than I thought. O/S was fine as I could get to the nuts by sticking my arm through the hole where the blanking plate lives, N/S was where I had to remove the headlamp and grow a second elbow joint to get my arm to where the nuts ( and eventually 10mm spanner ) needed to be. All done and quite happy with it. It has a practical purpose, it will be my main access to the new Brownchurch rack I ordered today, mainly to get my bicycle up out of the way. Oh, I also fitted a snow cowal, really didn't think it would have been put to the test so quickly, snow and sleet showers were off and on most of the day - didn't come to anything though Big Cry
I still need to fit the bonnet checker plate, but noticed many of the fixings will be behind the strengthening ribs and double skin bits of the bonnet. What is the trick here - captive nuts or big pop rivets? Suggestions happily accepted. Next task will be to fit the roofrack, it is 24/48 hour delivery - faster than I thought, so should be here shortly. Getting it delivered to my work where there will ( hopefully ) be a few willing hands to help me fit it Bow down
Filled the tank today, my first refill since buying the thing 30.3 mpg, mixed driving. Delighted with that after the 21 or so from my old Discovery 300 auto. I could get the Disco down to 16mpg if towing the caravan and country lane driving - convinced the Mrs we would be much better off with a Defender - she's happy so we're all happy Laughing

Actually, yesterday... We returned back home from a long weekend in Belgium. Antwerp-Geneva, approximately 850 km mostly highway, 10 hours, with the last 8 hours in solid almost uninterrupted downpour. It was raining cats and dogs as per the old saying....
All going very well, but I had water ingress in the lights. Shocked
No, not in the Speakers, they stayed bone dry Razz , but in those "pig ugly warts" as someone on here calls my Hella Comet 550 fog lights. Laughing
Anyway, that is not a problem, those Hellas which are halogens dry out as fast again as they fog up when turned on. Thumbs Up
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Brownchurch roofrack fitted
New roofrack arrived today, so with a couple of willing ( actually press ganged ) helpers it was soon on. Nip up the fixing nuts and Robert is your mothers brother. Not done the ladder yet, probably tomorrow though. Very happy with the way it looks, I'm sure it will come in very useful as the 90 is has considerably less space than the old Disco for storing stuff when going on holiday with the dogs and caravan.
Sounds like rivnuts for the chequer plate on the bonnet, cheers smb. I'll look into purchasing some in the correct size.
Hi roel, yes I like the yellow, didn't think it would grow on me the way it has, but it will be staying that colour for the foreseeable future anyway. There is another yellow 90 in my home town, the guys friends are waving at me now, either that or I have suddenly become very popular Laughing Mines is ex RAF, but certain panels have been resprayed and it must be a hard colour to match - there are at least two different shades to the paintwork. But, as the motor is solid and minted everywhere else I am happy to live with the slight differences in the paint. If it really bothered me that much it's only a quick dusting all over to have it the one hue again.

Fitted the rest of the chequer plate to the wingtops - I have to say black plate on Aintree Green looks pretty good - and a RetroSound PA-2 powered aerial - bit of a tight fit but works well. 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX

Fitted access ladder
Fitted the ladder for my new roofrack, straight forward enough but I had to enlarge the bottom fixing holes on it with a 10mm drill as they were not 100% lining up. It takes my weight, so the quality must be decent Very Happy
