I'm pretty sure that the only person that uses my handbrake is my MoT man once a year!

Painting my grille ect.
Just laid the base coat of gloss black on the OE grille looks stunning.

After buying KBX bits for the wing tops and intake and I do like them but I'm less than impressed with their paint job.

It's so thin especially the clear coat you could probably scratch it with your finger nail. Rolling Eyes

IF I bought any more KBX bits in the future I'd be inclined to get a Matt finish cheaper one and then paint it myself.

I'd get a better paint job then.

United Kingdom 1998 Defender 110 300 Tdi SW Bronze Green
Been busy over the last few days with a few nice little jobs on Gracie.

Refitted a genuine Land Rover GPS mount to hold a Dezl 760LMT 7" GPS. The first attempt at fitting the bracket resulted in a lot of vibration being passed to the GPS, so this time a fitted an aluminium backing plate under the dash panel. I also drilled an extra couple of holes to take some extra Torx screws into the top, fastened underneath into some spire clips. Finally I installed a specially-constructed-at-great-expense support underneath as well - okay I found a Hozelock connector was a perfect wedge-fit between the central support bracket and the underside of the desk and helped support the flimsy dash even better.

Haven't road-tested it again yet but it seems better and more solid than my first attempt at fitting it.

This particular GPS has the capability to receive a wireless reverse camera signal, which it displays as soon as reverse is selected, so I thought what the heck and bought one. It took a bit of ingenuity and head-scratching to arrange some cunning bracketry for the camera. It's now nestling just to the left of the towbar, using the two spare 6mm holes for the mounting.

Works well and will certainly make hooking up the caravan a bit easier, as well as backing out of our drive.

I tried some Mudstuff seat rails recently (I'm 6'3") and the legroom was nice, but the height bothered me - I couldn't see out of the side windows very easily and it felt a bit claustrophobic. So I reverted to some spacers to raise the seat just enough for the sliding part of the seat rail to clear the rear lip on the seat box. This gives a couple of inches of extra rearward travel without too much height gain. Seems to be working well so far.

The next thing on the list is full carpeting from Exmoor Trim which should arrive in early May. I'm pondering a better - lockable - cubby box as well, but I don't want an extra radio compartment which so may appear to have. Will keep looking.

In the meantime I'm also slowly mastering the art of changing gear smoothly with the 2.2 engine and 6 speed gearbox. More revs appears to the the answer so far, especially with the very low 1st gear. It's certainly different to the Td5... Dave

Replaced the drive belt, tensioner and idler pulley. Not a bad job (needed assistance from Mrs Excossack to slip the belt on while I held the tensioner back.
Replaced three of the four front vent panel hinge bolts (one was seized and needs some penetrating fluid)
Checked engine oil

Busy busy day!

Dropped the girlfriend off at work, then met up with Ronin for a delightful chat! Thoroughly nice chap!

Then a quick blat home to have a cup of tea, then back out to meet a friend to measure up for a set of shelves that need building, before deciding a unit would be better suited. Back home for a bonfire then back out again to pick up the girlfriend and get some diesel. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Nice arent they. I quite like them. There was a nice Firenze Red with black contrast roof in my local dealers last week when I was teaching first aid to some of the staff.

I prefer the previous model, getting too rounded and curvy like Euroboxes for my liking.
