to me, th first stat is an engine stat, the controller of the engines temp.

the second one looks like a heating circuit stat, with a bypass to mix the flow.

not 100% but i'd be changing the first one.

i am really confused now, when i put the part number in google it brings up the top one, some sites say "the house stat not the hose one"
when i google defender pump thermostat mostly the bottom picture shows but saying that most of the aftermaket suppliers show the top one

Puma has two according to the parts catalogue.

The white bodied one alongside the radiator like the Td5 - PEM100990K

And the LR004618 part you've been given, which is in here:

Thanks Martin!

Now which one is likely to cause over heating?

I presume the one on the back of the pump will open once the engine reaches temp
And the same for the plastic housing type for the heater, that said this one is unlikely to cause any over heating? Just cold heaters?

that picture is a transit thermostat housing

NOT A DEFENDER

THE HOUSING IS NOT FITTED TO A DEFENDER AND THERE IS ONLY ONE THERMOSTAT

the metal bracket shown in the picture that the housing bolts to is the bracket at the top front right of the engine (as you look at front ) where the glow plug wire joint is ON A TRANSIT

Much90 as much as i think the same as you the facts are against us!
Land Rover gave this stat, the web shows it for the 2.4 tdci, the work shop manual shows it in the rear of the pump BUT the fitting instructions only show the other plastic assembly? 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

see the big wiring loom at the front top of engine , you can see the metal peg sticking out under it by the top hose and cable tie , that's the metal bracket ( number 4 ) shown in martins diagram picture

And that's the exact same diagram that's in my manual also. Confused I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
