Sorry didn't read the whole thread above (out) but it's the plastic housed thermostat that I replaced & sorted my problem. It wasn't opening in warm water when I tested it.
This is the one I bought http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/331132538262?_mwBanner=1 Replied to your Pm too Bear100 ![]() Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

The plastic one is the Puma one the other one looks like a 300tdi thermostat. The part number for the Puma thermostat (the plastic one in the earlier pictures) is the same as for a TD5 so its a part that has been used for a while. What is the problem? 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

Just to throw a spanner in.......
Isn't there the normal (plastic y-shaped one) thermostat which controls the water bypass for the heating circuit, but also another thermostat which controls the flow through to the oil cooler? Or is this integral to the oil cooler? To quote the workshop manual; "The engine cooling system cools the oil in the oil cooler and is regulated by means of a separate thermostat, which prevents the flow of coolant through the oil cooler when the engine is cold, ensuring the engine oil warms up quickly. The thermostat opens at 75±2°C (167±35°F)." Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

the oil cooler thermostat is in the little plastic pipe the joins to the oil cooler on the filter housing
and before anyone says it must be the top one in the first post picture , no it isn't , the cooler one is very small comes as part of the pipe is held in with one bolt and has a o ring to seal it there is also a thermostat for the fuel and yes its not that one either ![]() |

....but to answer the "which one is causing overheating".
If the ickle-micro-thermostats are not working then; Oil cooler not cooling and/or fuel cooler not cooling could help towards engine getting hot. However, I'd be more inclined to say it was the plastic jobby. With the ones fitted to the Transit missing, I assume that the plastic one has been introduced due to the fact that the water has to flow to non-transit stuff. Therefore, the redesign took out the original Ford thermostat housing and replaced it with the well-known LR one. "plastic jobby" is the one that controls engine temp
yes remote plastic jobby replaces transit set up Last edited by munch90 on 19th Jan 2015 11:23am. Edited 1 time in total |
