That was a really nice touch by the dealer - allowing you to pick your own registration number. Last few vehicles I've bought I was told - "they are all issued by our admin team in strict rotation from a list issued by DVLA"!!
Sometimes it's those little gestures that create so much feelgood factor as you get closer to paying the bill and driving off. |

Just a thought - was there a reason you didn't just wait another 3 weeks and have a 2014 registered Defender?

To be honest I wanted to wait till march. But I sold my old defender quicker then expected, so placed the order for the new one quicker then I expected, I was expecting to be waiting six months which would of made it 14plate. I've been driving a work van for the last couple of months, which is good as it's free. But I like to drive my own vehicle..
Apparently it doesn't make that much difference how late or early it's registered in the year. I hope that I never have to sell it and it lasts me a good few years. |

How exciting. you lucky . Look forward to seeing the pics when you get it.
Cuthbert he'd have to wait til 1st March to get a 14 plate as the current 63 plate stays until then. |

Well aware that a '14' plate is not available till March 2014 - but in 5 years time a '63' plate on a 2014 registered Defender might be worth more than a '63' plate on a 2013 registered Defender?
I have twice bought and registered new vehicles in December and on both occasions when I came to sell them they were worth a lot less than if I had waited another two or three weeks and had a January registered vehicle. The only good news for me was by taking the vehicle in December, which is traditionally very quiet in the motor trade I got a stonking great discount which just about covered my increased losses at disposal time. No intention of raining on Lewis' parade and trust he enjoys his new Defender and has many miles of trouble free motoring. |
