Any of the site sponsors have these on offer? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Looking at the photos, the Entreq has no horizontal loosenable hinge pin as the others do, not on the side shown anyway. Are any of the hinges made of hardened steel? The Entreq skeletal look, gives me the impression it could be sawn through faster than the more solid rivals. Pin issue aside the GMB looks most solid. A BB could be superglued in the hexagonal socket. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Today I have implemented an idea which means it is "more difficult" to open the bonnet.
For sure anything can be overcome..but this is an obstacle that causes time delay and the would be thief may well go elsewhere. It took me 20 mins and cost very little. Should I put pics on here? How? Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... Defender 90 HT............Pangea Green BMW X3 Msport............Carbon Black Mini Electric................Grey. Clemmo - I think it sort of depends whether there is something sneaky or not obvious about your solution - e.g. hidden lock or something - if it a visual deterent to the thieves - ie a bloody great padlock then you may decide it is worth sharing. Personally I'd be careful of sharing widely on a public place

Anyone thought about something like this:
Click image to enlarge Placed more centrally on the bonnet it would make levering the bonnet open much harder and probably impossible to do without bending or cracking it. The less bling versions also have a a resemblence to the heater blanks and would all but disappear on a chequerplated bonnet. Yes please - although found this one online - it would be good to see a wider shot of the bonnet: Click image to enlarge More photos http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=68685 Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Surely a better general solution is concealed hinges (goes for doors also). Not necessarily as alternatives, but secondary.
Also a burglar alarm sounding when a bonnet is part disassembled. Again 2 (alarms) are better than 1. Right I don't know how it could be done but here's my idea
As far as I can see to lift bonnet you first have to pulling release handle in cab or prob hook the cable and yank so it allows hook to move to he side and hay presto up it springs But what if behind the hook to the right is a sliding bolt like on patio door that you press in to lock and turn key to release or just a bracket with a nut on it and bolt hidden in grill you just undo to allow hook to clear No too sure if theres enough room for this but it might work It's good to be back from the dark side DC110 -2012 Black with black hood and black x-tech FFRR 4.2 vogue Renault traffic auto PT crusier convertible Laika x700 Motorhome |

Another option is to replace the cable operated bonnet latch with an electric solenoid based one (as used on many cars for the bootlid/hatchback now). Parts are readily available online if you google, and it is not particularly difficult to do.
It makes it very difficult to open the bonnet from outside, and probably impossible to do quickly or without damaging it. There are lots of things you can do with alarms and trackers too, which I have absolutely no intention of posting here. |
