A sculptured block of aluminium on top of the bonnet, between the hinges, and bolted from underneath with security bolts could prevent the bonnet being lifted to the correct angle, by coming into contact withe bulkhead. Colour coded or plain it could be a simple fix, difficult to move without damaging the bonnet. It would function as would the SD roll cage but a lot cheaper and easier to fit. LANDYWATCH

Just a little. I still think the best way is the old way of closing the bonnet most of the way and then using a bike chain to stop the bonnet being lifted- this means that when the thief tries, he finds out it takes more than 2 seconds he will just abandon. Glyn |

Fingers crossed that will occur. However I do know when thieves have been stopped by physical security they have just smashed the items. A case of well I can not steal it but you will not be able to use your legitimate property. Sad but true. So visual deterent or covert deterent? Or both? Visual may deter opportunist scumbag, but others may come 'tooled up' for the job. Take sensible precautions but try not to worry too much about the scumbags. One of the best security is keeping things out of sight, not always practical with vehicles however. Brendan |

Good advice Brendan.
I would tend to go for covert simply to keep the genreral 'look' of the vehicle. But I can see why overt is sometimes best. Also, if you are bolting things through the top of the bonnet clearly this will detract from the bonnet value. |

Bad news.
But why dont you fit security bolts to make removal difficult and fit a lock to stop it being opened ? |

Because some people like to fit the PUma bulged bonnet to older Land Rovers to make then look newer and because they're expensive. Darren

Hi Bruce, unfortunately there are a lot of lazy scumbags who will happily nick a bonnet and sell it for say £200 on sites such as ebay.
You turn that into an hourly rate and it certainly beats working for a living! Yes they can be nicked very fast unless precautions are taken. The Puma bonnet is 'desireable' to make an older Defender look younger then it is. A lot of Land Rover main dealers will leave Disco4's and Range Rovers on their forecourt overnight but will put Defenders in workshop/secure compound. When you consider a legally bought brand new bonnet, latching mechanism, bonnet stay, decal, hinges, paint work, fitting etc will set the victim/insurance company back a £1,000+ then the security honges is a cheap option.
