I use a small lock, you can just squeeze your hand in to undo it! OK to stop the opportunist but not your determined scroats. The problem is they will keep coming back as they have got away with it twice now. You need to stop them somehow, make it more difficult for them to gain access to the vehicle etc.
Have you got CCTV/signs and spotlights which detect movement? It won't stop them ultimately but they will know you are serious about getting them... They don't sound to be professional otherwise they would have pinched the whole vehicle. Stick a camera in the vehicle with a big sign on it CCTV/Alarm/Laser movement detection/Immobiliser etc etc and keep the barrel of a gun pointing out of one window Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

sorry to hear that, scumbags everywhere.
I would invest in one of these and make sure the vehicle is in full view of it when parked. I have one on mine and the picture quality is very good. You can even have it sent you emails with picture attached if movement is detected at night. There is a free app on the iphone so you can see the cam live over the internet with sound as well if you are away from home. They do a cheaper indoor one as well if you happen to have a window facing the truck. Pom |

Scum.
The bike lock idea like Zags seems to be a winner, I'm going to invest in one methinks. There's a couple of other people on here doing the same thing. But as has been said if they want it bad enough they'll find a way... Quite tempted to invest in some geese... Guard dogs can be distracted by food but I've yet to see a goose give in if someone wants to move it out of the way... |

sad times I would check that your alarm is still functional as I bet they disabled it, install a extra earth cable from the battery to the chassis, silicone the bolt heads..
If someone was to come up with a bonnet lock that actually worked they would make mega money, nakatanenga? Jack |

For those that are old enough to remember the same happened when they bought out the Mk 2 Ford Capri as it too had a 'power bulge' and was an attractive tea-leaf target.
Mind you, you could get into cars them days very easily! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Have a look at www.outbackautomotive.co.uk
Some of the Jeep accessory hood catches look like they are lockable and there is also a Wrangler hood lock that may fit. My last motor was a '59 plate Wrangler and I'm fairly certain that some of the locking stainless hood latches shown would work on a Defender. Also try www.systemq.com for one of their dummy CCTV cameras. Place it near a PIR security light so it's easily visible when the light comes on. www.steinel.co.uk do a battery powered PIR sensor that can send a signal to one of their wire-free doorbell chimes. Put the sensor overlooking the Defender and plug the chime in next to your bed. That way, when someone triggers the sensor and the thing chimes at 3a.m. your skellington will be out of the door and open for business before you and your jim-jams are out of bed. Beleive me, I know. |

Bolting the bonnet down as i suggested a while ago.
I suggested to a customer at a friends to retro fit the old bonnet key lock like the 90/110's and he went and did it...ive not seen him since but thats another lock I did have another idea ages ago...but selling the car seemed the solution! Mike |

The alarm is working fine. Had a new after market system fitted after the last time. The alarm woke me but by the time I had gone downstairs and out to the car the bonnet had gone and nobody to be seen or heard. I heard the bonnet pop open then the alarm. They were bloody quick. The lock through the bonnet and engine hoist hole is a good idea and will be doing that when it comes back. Also think I will set some form of trap

Totally news.
As for solutions why not do what I do and allow all the children in your family to picnic on it with shoes on. It ends up looking as though you use fresh bramble to clean it with. No self respecting thief would want it. |

Crappy news. I've seen these used on a few cars now, not cheap but might be of interest.
