Recalls for the puma?
Guy's,

Is there a concise list that exists detailing all the recall's issued for the puma since it's release in 2007? I'm not asking for a list of everything that's gone wrong with everyones vehicle here - just the official factory notices issued relating to fixes.

I'd like to be able to ring the dealer and ask him if all the recall work that was required has been done on my vehicle- but would prefer to do so with a list in front of me.

Thanks (in anticipation.....)

Recalls there are only 2 - Sump and Brake Pipes

Service actions there are more (not definitive):
Vacc Pump
Propshaft Greese Nipples
Clutch
Breather
A frame bolts (very early)
Brake Pad Rattle
Jack Rattle
Intermittent Cranking
A cold markets one

There are a couple other incidental ones Mike

I was informed of a new campaign here regarding the ECU software that must be changed.

The problem was the sensor's sensibility to low quality diesels. The changes allows lower quality fuels without had errors in the ECU.

Ive not have access to the Landrover techinfo so I cannot confirm.

Cheers Eduardo

Scatt,

I just speak today with the dealer and he told me about the ECU update. Maybe has been released again for 3rd world countries were the diesel are not good.

Tomorrow I will be there again for replace a joint-propshaft in the front propellor due an excesive wearing (62.000 km) and they will do the ECU update.

Cheers Eduardo

I think i had this remap done yesterday. Confused

We don't have 3rd World Diesel in Aus, as far as I'm aware (10PPM Sulphur)?

Seems to have increased the mid range torque. Have an even bigger grin on my face now.

Humm,

We will see what happens

Here also the diesel is quite good with less than 50 PPM in the Capital and less than 350 ppm in the rest of the country (should be the best in Central and South America).

It is possible after made the update comeback to the old one?

Cheers Eduardo

Land Rover Service Bulletin SSM38792, 2.4 Puma Engine Knock Noise.
Title: 2.4 Puma Engine Knock Noise.
Type: LD - Defender - All Years - Special Service Messages - Engine
Name / Part No: SSM38792
Info Type: Service Bulletins
Version No: 1
Date Uploaded: 21 Jul 2008

Title: 2.4 Puma Engine Knock Noise.
Last Modified: 21-JUL-2008 09:44
Category: Engine
Symptom: 497000 Engine Noise

Content Issue: Heavy audible knocking heard on start up.
Cause: On start up oil pressures can cause the piston cooling jets, (PCJ), to latch into a zero flow condition. Due to hysteresis effect in design the jets do not unlatch until the engine is warm and the oil pressures lower again. During this time with no pressurized oil jet flow to the lower pistons / cylinder bores, overheat and scuff conditions / damage can occur.

Action: Replace the engine assy but ensure only engines post serial # ELD00080707063602 are used.
This condition will not occur on vehicles post assured Vin# 9A767162.
Engines post the info above are fitted with modified PCJ internal springs and this issue is now closed.

The brake pipe was rubbing on the heat sheild and failing (some posts on here) and failing: 206-Q054v2:

A limited number of 2007/8MY Defender vehicles may have been manufactured away from
process and in some cases; the rear brake pipe may have been incorrectly routed/fitted resulting
in reduced clearance/contact with the heat shield. If the rear brake pipe is in contact with the
heat shield, this may result in the brake pipe wearing through.
Action to be taken
You are requested to contact the owners of the affected vehicles and request that the vehicle is
made available at the earliest opportunity so it can be inspected and where necessary the brake
pipe be re-routed or replaced. A sample customer letter for you to use is attached as Appendix 1.
The workshop procedure is attached as Appendix 2.

Mine went in and they couldnt better my bodge fix but the sump it was in being changed when the sales dealer called me to book it in. Mike
