Perhaps it's worth bearing in mind that "open" is already partly closed, due to the wide frame of these muffs. I expect these things are only intended for winter when either closed or (half)open are the only sensible options... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

NO. Sorry, no. But I have made enquiries about buying a PVC one. Looking at the details on the website, it seems to be better secured that the Exmoor Trim one, and also includes a fly mesh, which is a bonus given the recent discussions about chaff guards. Darren

The one I have can be fitted either way up. I've got it so that it rolls down thinking that it doesn't matter if the fasteners holding the flap open fail - the other way up and if the fasteners fail the flap will roll down and close the aperture. By coincidence, I spoke to him yesterday and I'm just about to send a cheque off for one. I've asked him if he can make one in dark grey to match the grill

Well, my 'Globe Roamer' rad muff arrived today. My idea of a grey one didn't pan out as the grey available was too light, so I went for an ordinary black one. I've just come in from the garage after fitting it and I'm pretty pleased with the result. The pictures aren't brilliant as it's dark, but I hope they give the idea:
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge It's well made and a very good fit. It's much better secured than the rubbish clip-on one from Exmoor Trim that I sent back and is much cheaper too, which is nice ![]() Bearing in mind that this is a new product from a 'one man and his idea' operation, I have got a few observations, which I've also passed on to the vendor. In order to fit the thing it's necessary to separate the grill from the surround. It then hooks over all four corners and the four lugs on the top of the grill that hold it into the frame. However, the instructions are written to suit earlier models on which the grill is secured with screws and it doesn't quite work in the same way with the plastic fir trees used on later models. The six brass rimmed holes on the sides are intended to enable the grill to be screwed back on, but the fir trees don't really fit through those holes. Not an insurmountable problem, but it did require a bit of fiddling and faffing to get it done. The only other issue was that when it arrived, it had the words 'Globe Roamer' stencilled in 4 inch high white letters across the mesh. I'm afraid some matt black spray paint took care of that ![]() Tomorrow morning will be the test of how well it works and I'll get a couple of better pictures. Here are a couple of pics in the daylight:
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge It made a very noticeable difference to the warm-up time this morning, with the needle moving off the bottom of the guage in about a quarter of a mile. Haven't done a long enough run to see if it needs to be left cracked open slightly yet. Is there a way it can be placed half way closed or is it either fully open and fully closed?
