My pal at Solihull is Defender suspension/chassis engineer and has been for probably thirty years, over that time a lot of development/improvements were cancelled on cost grounds, but his vast knowledge is still valid when maintaining an old LR - especially because he knows what works and what doesn't. in the case of poly v OE he has no axe to grind, just his professional opinion based on hard data. - Another contact is a small independent with a four poster, my pal has kindly offered to give up a Saturday when I get round to swapping the bushes.

Good to know. I'll be interested to know how this swap gets on. Immediately the weaving on a straight road (the reason I felt the need to tackle trailing arms and the a-frame), feels much tighter. Weaving gone. However, tipping into a corner/hairpin, still feel something is happening, so I'll do the a-frame next. Anyway, my OEM (main triangular bush), and Terrafirma (trailing arm to axle) bush combo certainly feel better, we shall see how they get on long term, and what difference once the a-frame ball joint has been replaced, later this week.

Be interested to see if A frame ball joint has any obvious wear, there was a factory upgrade from Td5 forward that escaped the accountant’s penny pinching with the result that the ball joint was much improved

Will let you know Revd. Prior to the trailing arms being done, there was a noticeable knock from under the rear axle if, for example, I reversed slowly, then drove forward. Just driven it, knock is still there but considerably less pronounced. So A-frame BJ might literally be the last item to tighten everything up. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

A frame ball joint and the other two bushes knock quite a lot when worn out. No Guts, No Glory.
