I would'nt use any wet waxes on anything other than brand new components it just makes things far worse and is a pain to remove later for a effective solution. Keep with Buzzweld coatings or similar and leave the wet waxes for "Swiss Tony" |

What "wet waxes" are you referring to (never heard that term) and which Buzzweld product/s ("or similar" as you say), do you mean?

These rust like crazy. Best to do them from new like this one... in Dinitrol clear coat.

Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Alpha 156 GTA... a mint Japanese import that some idiot garage has sprayed Lanoguard all underneath and made all the previous underseal gloopy. Looks like it has a massive oil leak now. People... Lanoguard is just a glue, of course it won,t stop rust. It's just a massive marketing exercise and easy for the average Joe to apply and get that feel good factor! You have to address the rust first not just cover it

Hi,
First time on the forum, but how I wish I had found the anti-corrosion guide ten years ago, but I am asking for help. Cleaning out the back of the Defender I noticed galvanic corrosion around the rear seat mounts (white powder and slime)., with a couple of small holes going all of the way through the top of the inner wing. Moving underneath, I have found galvanic corrosion in the aluminium along the top edge of the stiffener. See photo. My first thought is to remove the five rivet holding the top of the stiffener and insert an aluminium strip along its full length to cover the corrosion. The strip will be held in place with suitable adhesive and the re-riveted stiffener. Second option is to add a full length plate on the inside of the vehicle. After painting, the back of the stiffener is to be flooded with Waxoyl. Which is the best option? Has anyone else had this problem? If so how did you solve it? Thank you. |

You could try looking at YRM, they have a range of gaskets and takes you can use to isolate the aluminium bodywork from any steel to try and help prevent the bimetallic corrosion occurring. E.g.:

Two very nice Defenders that have been well looked after. A 2011 from Worcester and a 2007 TD5 from Cornwall. The latter was bought when it was a couple of years old and is probably worth 5K more now from what the owner paid. Pretty good, free motoring almost in one respect!
