Has anyone asked Allisport about water ingress into their airbox, I highlighted this on page 2 of this topic as it does happen with the Nugget Stuff airbox if you have a wing side or wing top air intake and the Allisport one looks functionally the same, I.e no water separator or drain fitted.

Note: one issue that some have encountered when changing out the old airbox and intake pipe for a nugget one is during heavy rain moisture, in some cases a lot of water, gets into the airbox and soaks the filter and builds up in the bottom of the airbox ( a very bad thing).
This happens if the standard side or wing top is used for the new air intake pipe as there is no water separator or airbox drain fitted. As the Alisport solution does not have a moisture separator or airbox drain this could also cause moisture / water ingress during heavy rain.

The solution is to fit an RAI / snorkel with a cyclonic filter at the top.

So something to think on and ask Alisport about

The Allisport doesn’t have a water separator but I haven’t had a problem with water ingress with it. Mind you, I didn’t with my Nuggetstuff either. Both used the wing side vent. WARNING.

Interestingly when I looked inside my current totally standard lr intake system and the filter box yesterday there was water in the webs below the filter. The water drain just inside the wing inlet was not blocked and also dripping.

My 130 has a nugget stuff side wing box and nugget air intake pipe to std air box. Think I will check that too.

Wing mount looks standard which I like.

Thanks for that..👍

Is anyone able to post the dimensions of their filter or the make supplied with the kit..

When I looked up the numbers in the one in the pic it linked to a Ridex brand one. I’m sure the dims were there. Ridex is Autodoc’s own brand so I’m sure it’ll cross reference numerous others. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

You will need to include a centrifugal precleaner if you want to avoid water ingress. I don't think any of the aftermarket filter boxes include separators so unless you provide an external separator you will get a soggy filter under wet conditions.

If an external centrifuge bothers you you would be better off sticking with a standard unmodified airbox and upgrading just the pipework from wing to airbox.

I've never found even a hint of water in my Nuggetstuff filter housing (although it have ingested a surprising number of wasps this year).

I like it a lot, also less restrictive than the original. It doesn’t look at all standard to me though. Not only is the design very different it sits more proud than OE. The rubber grommity things for the screws are a nice touch, even though I kept dropping one while pulling the hose through! Only issue is my OCD because it doesn’t match the wing tops… WARNING.

Well its been in a while now, i can post up some fitting pics? normal driving no noticeable increase in intake noise to me when in the vehicle. normal driving no massive immediate gains felt. towing yes it seems you can hold a gear for longer and it will pull a higher gear with less rpms. first longish trip yesterday, 180 miles sat at 65 up and back less the 18 miles of town driving avg 32.7 on scan gauge and 32.5 on actual fill. didnt do that before at 65mph. more like 29mpg.

nothing else really changed on vehicle. there were three of us in it not 4 but then no dogs with us yesterday but otherwise loaded similar Cheers

I fitted a nugget stuff one on mine with the intake pipe work kit, easy to fit took about 2 hours.

With a circa 10% increase in MPG it should pay for itself in a couple of years if you do 10k miles p.a Very Happy

Have you driven in any heavy rain for a reasonable distance ? i’m Still obsessing on water ingress into the airbox Rolling with laughter

I was looking at these on YouTube earlier, how are people finding them?

I have a Safari snorkel which has water separator in the head, never had any issues with water ingress.
Beyond that, sealed up factory pipework, into factory airbox with airbox mod complete.

I think the only real improvement that could be on mine would be a large bore hose between wing and airbox, or one of these Alisport housings as well.

To be honest I wish I had done that at the time, but there wasn’t many solutions on the market at the time so sealed up the factory pipework,

I wouldn’t worry about water drains though I keep mine open in the airbox base, if you have to drill a very small hole with a rubber bung, shouldn’t need to be anything bigger than 5mm anyway.

The only thing is if everything is sealed, then nothing can get out, but that would only be happening realistically if you go in very deep water which would be not a good idea anyway that deep.

Is there a receptacle that can be fitted, that can take a rear hose to the rear to the airbox?
The intake on the alisport is for wingsude only by the look of it or is it two part front and rear? No Guts, No Glory.

Hi custom..I posted a thread yesterday on my findings on fitting an Ali spot intake system....it actually resulted in a decrease in air flow from the standard set up that I removed..
Yesterday I pretty well confirmed by swapping out to standard air box and filter again that the standard air box is more efficient than the alloy version..
Reading your post I'd say the only real improvement you could make would be a larger bore silicone hose from the wing to airbox... and stick with the standard box and filter.. or maybe try a ITG filter in the standard box..
Fitting one of them in the alloy intake box improved air flow slightly..👍
My two penneth for what it's worth after spending a bit time looking into and comparing the two set up over a good few months..

I have a Nakatanenga top-entry large bore snorkel plumbed into a Nuggetstuff air box and can assure you that it makes a significant and clearly noticeable improvement to drivability over a standard air box with the same snorkel, and the snorkel made a similar improvement compared to the original factory wing-side intake.

These are real observations based on everyday driving. Thumbs Up

Is there a wingside intake that can then take a 102mm pipe from the rear available? I swear I’ve seen one before on here.

My Snorkel (Safari) is the side not the top, all good, but what would be needed in an inlet from the wing side with a 102mm hose exiting from the rear, and delete the plastic factory pipework.
Which would be in place of the existing first chamber of the air inlet, then back via a 102mm pipework to the factory air box.

Then that means the inlet would be captive between the wing and snorkel on the exterior and sealed, and the engine bay side ready to pick up the pipe, then the airflow wouldn’t be obstructed to a right angle either, or is there an obstruction in the way?

Blackwolf’s system has a larger bore perhaps 102mm size too?, which is good, but that’s also because it’s an upper entry via the wingtop and then in rather than the side due to different Snorkel design and entry design and system.

I cannot understand why LR made the factory pipework in multiple pieces, it must be due to manufacturing and for adjustability due to tolerances fitting, but leaks like a sieve unless sealed and even sealed up like mine is there are a lot of joints, and it does get narrower at points which is constriction of airflow.

The wing entry does have an angle I think because of obstruction, so perhaps a 45 degree angle would work? I can’t quite remember what’s behind there but the LR plastic system is restrictive for sure.
I wanted to get rid of it back when I fitted the Snorkel but there wasn’t really much on the market.

The Nuggerstuff airbox is a nice bit if kit for sure, but the inlet system is still an issue for the fitment on mine.

The biggest pain, is the fact is whatever I would do there is that the Snorkel would have to come off to fit anything, and that’s a pain, not the worse job, but because the upper bracket is bonded that would have to come off too and be bonded back again. Rolling Eyes

Or I could just leave it, but it would be nice to fit a bigger bore pipe that’s more reliable and better sealed there for more airflow, I think it would improve things but the inlet is the issue between the wing and the pipe pick up.

As I mentioned I do remember seeing one, but when I had a look online the other day I couldn’t see any on the market, the pipework is easy to get but not the inlet I’m thinking of. No Guts, No Glory.

I echo Blackwolf. I’ve had both Nuggetstuff and Allisport setups and they definitely make a noticeable improvement. I also have a brand new Nakatanenga optimised air intake system for sale on here if anyone wants. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic92179.html It’s this one: https://www.sp-4x4.com/product_p/oaitd4-rhd-va-pb.htm

CustomSteve, if you fancy having a go in my Defender and checking out the Allisport airbox setup you are more than welcome. WARNING.

I hear what you are saying..but it changes nothing in terms of what I've reported.. also based on real world readings..my ali sport air box is definitely not as efficient as the standard box and filter based on readings that ive observed over the last few months..and are quite repeatable..
I remember posting at the time about the immediate drop in air flow when the alisport system was installed..and now the jump back to the higher air flow rates (actually higher than before due i suspect to the ducting that was installed with the ali sport system and left in place )as soon as the old box and filter were reinstalled..

I've never noticed any real difference in the vehicle performance with either set up but the air flow readings indicate there is a difference in the intake flow..
My truck has always run well and I'm sure all the upgrades contribute to the way it runs..the only upgrade that I've actually said made a noticeable impact was a remap.. everything else undoubtedly contributes but never found them significantly noticeable..
I take no real pleasure in spending hundreds of pounds to end up removing the so called upgrade because the figures indicate it isn't as efficient so why would I leave it in place..
The volumetric efficiency figures as I drive are now frequently hovering in the high 90% mark indicating the engine is breathing very well👍
