Various JLR models have been in the top 10 most stolen for at least 5 years (not just keyless entry vehicles) - however continuously rising. There's many articles online especially in regards to Range Rovers where it was reported that 1 in 100 RR's were a victim of theft. Unfortunately unless JLR improve their security it is going to continue to be reduced options of insurers available to owners.

We, as a broker, would love to continue to support - however with the insurers setting these limitations it significantly reduces our options on where we can place insurance. Nothing to do with profits as you will see there are cases where will be advising we cannot offer renewal amongst our panel, which is a reduction in business for ourselves. There's little we can do about the insurers decisions on their schemes.

As I say, we've supported the 6 forums here for many years and continued to discuss with insurers to allow more options, but once their decision is made there's little we can do.

I suppose it is profits ahead of customers, gilarion, but all businesses whatever it is will change their business model to suit where they think they can make money.

NFU was mentioned earlier and there have been a few posts on here about them no longer insuring Defenders. And they are the Farmers go-to insurance company!

I would imagine that it is all down to the fact that our Defenders regularly get nicked and the companies have to pay out and there is one thing insurance companies do not like is risk.

I know personally of two Defenders that have been stolen - and apart from the forum, I really don't know that many Defender owners so that isn't very good odds. I don't think I know of anyone else whose car has been stolen in the last 20 years (but that might be more to do with where I live).

Let's not be too hard on A-Plan. They have served the Forum handsomely since I have been hanging around here and as Carlie says, all good things have to come to an end.

No issue taking out a new policy with NFU on a 2015 Defender 90HT. I also have friends who have their L663s with them. They were good to deal with, very helpful and competitive.

Modifications will always be an easy excuse to either whack up the premium or decline altogether.

Unfortunately, insurance companies only like round pegs in round holes; the moment you deviate from their standard formulas, they can't easily quantify risk vs reward (how likely you are to clam vs how much they can charge you) and shy away from it.

At the end of the day, they are a commercial entity and chasing the low hanging fruit rather than more specialist business, which was once their USP.

JLR Classics and Highly modified for off roading (pre 2014) we actually are still competitive on (additional criteria which varies with insurer still applies) - we are still very much a specialist broker, unfortunately just with limitations in the JLR market.

However now that we are unable to support all members, it is best we withdraw to allow space for someone who can serve all of the members rather than the restricted few.

NFU weren’t even interested in quoting me. I hope A Plan can accommodate me at renewal time, been with them for quite a few years now. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I've previously had no luck with NFU. But renewed the Puma with A-Plan back in May with no issues, even no premium increase. James

The insurance market like everything else is forever changing.

Just be prepared in advance of your renewal to ring round with plenty of time to find others to quote you if your current provider can’t, not a great position I found myself in yesterday tbh.

It maybe useful as Defender owners to post when you do renew if it’s with your current insurer or someone new to see which brokers etc have had a change in approach to insuring Defenders.

A Plan have been great to deal with over the years and I have been a very happy customer but yesterdays approach and the manner in which it was delivered was not good. Shame because I would have happily remained a customer.

Check your renewal dates and if it’s not far away starting ringing around just in case things don’t go to plan….. 2015 HT XS 90

At last years renewal I found the renewal process very different. Very much the hard sell, constant text messages pushing for renewal. Noticed that Howdens are involved now. Big corporate strikes again I think.

Thanks everyone - we post out our renewal invites and rely on Royal Mail to deliver in a timely manner so if you are approaching renewal and haven't had it yet just give us a call Smile generally about 25 days beforehand we will be able to take a look at our whole panel for you and discuss it all on the phone.

We have been part of the Howden group for a few years now and hard-sell is not in our nature so please do pm me Tommybahama32 so I can see who you spoke to - the reminder texts/emails are automated and get sent as certain Xdays until renewal as reminders, feedback is generally that clients do like these as prone to forgetting Laughing but hard sell on the phone, that's not and has never been our approach so will look into if you pm.

Howden share the same ethos as ourselves which is the main reason we joined them, along with Aston Lark, Cherished Vehicle Insurance, Peter S Taylor, Allstyles Bike Insurance, RH Insurance... we will all become Howden later this year (after a few years under their banner already), nothing changes for clients apart from the name/logo on the letters Smile same staff but a bigger name means we will be the largest UK Broker and hopefully will help us develop more schemes with insurers going forward to help clients.

One thing we as a family have never had from A-Plan is a hard sell.

I use Bath and Witney and find them both excellent and super helpful. Whilst not always the cheapest, I like service, support and talking to a real person. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Thanks Moo! Good to hear

Our staff are not commission based so they do not gain anything from a hard sell Smile solely salary and creates a good work atmosphere as not in competition with colleagues, meaning you could speak to one person all week, call up and renew with someone else and no one gains/misses out. Howden Insurance - Specialist Vehicle

Just insured our 110 with A-Plan after a 2year hiatus for rebuild. Much more expensive than it used to be but all car insurance seems to have gone through the roof this year anyway and the vehicle is now worth considerably more money anyway.

Tried NFU this time too but had zero confidence in them as they couldn't even comprehend some of the modifications so wasnt convinced they would cover things if the worst happens. Last time we had NFU they listed having a winch as a 'modification for disability' or similar and this time it was very similar when the quote came through.

Well, the Fun Police have always maintained winches are dangerous and can result in injury and disability. Laughing

But not as bad as HiLifts apparently.

Just had my renewal for this year through from Aplan - it has gone up 13% which is far better than the 47% that the insurance on my L663 (from another insurer) went up by this year.

Will phone the good folks at A plan to chat through as I need to add a few more miles.
