UPDATE:
35 degrees today and power loss again when hammering the motorway - only got up to 75 mph I did not have the Noisekiller engine blanket on and the only explanation is high air temperature, perhaps plus the RAI. Not sure if the MAF gets screwed at high air temperatures but I don't imagine it's faulty. I'm guessing a bigger intercooler and a forward-facing "air-ram" RAIs might help this a bit (but I don't have one...). However, could a bigger intercooler really help if there's only a certain amount of hot air going into the RAI? In any case, I don't think the Noisekiller was to blame. That is interesting....... it is over 35 degC on a daily basis in Cyprus and I have never had this power loss. That is with a RAI and pre-filter....... only difference is that I have a iTg panel filteer.

Even more interesting Do you drive at 80 mph in the heat and is your RAI forward facing? Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

When on the motorway it is around 80-90, and 50-60 on main roads. My RAI is mantec steel with an ARB pre-filter.......... Just as another thought- I also have an Alive full system exhaust so less back pressure so possibly reducing the temperature in the turbo resulting in cooler intake temperatures. Now that is a nice looking 'fender
Your Mantec RAI looks a better design for getting air in all around - my standard LR one has no airflow at the front and almost nothing underneath. Looks more like it keeps air out Click image to enlarge As for the power loss, the plot thickens. We have a few more days at 35 degrees here so if it happens again I'm going to change to my spare MAF and see what happens... Can you get a sort of nanocom thing to read the real temp? Puma 110" SW

It's very unlikely that the RAI is the cause of your troubles. There are lots of other vehicles running around with them fitted in hot climates without issue. Darren

true... but as far as I can tell, not all the same design. My "original" LR-shaped one seems quite few and far between (except on LR adverts). It would be interesting to hear from people with this same design driving fast in hot countries... I know - very unlikely At 80 mph, I'm guessing aerodynamics/airflow are pretty important. I don't seem to get any power loss pulling at lower speeds... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Hey, your Mantec/LR RAI hasn't gone rusty yet! Matt, not checked TOPIx yet, but most later vehicles use the MAF as a source for calculating the air intake temperatures. If you can't check using live data, or there are no codes present, and perhaps, given the bargain price of a Genuine MAF sensor, try fitting one and see what happens? That's the funny thing - no codes are present (according to the ATRIC). I would have expected something if the engine was suffocating in the heat
I've got the genuine new MAF ready to fit tomorrow mid-drive if the power drops again. Meanwhile I want to "WTD" one of those Nanocom things to check temperature etc. but don't know what to ask for Will do a search now Thanks to all again for the advice Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
