Pete, thank you for your comments.

so if i run it for profit through my company then that is ok but as i was doing it as a non profit event it shouldn't be on!

iv'e done the routes, i've seen it and driven it. i am not billing to go back and recce it to double check, and i am not billing as a company to make money. I merely offered to take anyone who wished to come and to cover my specific costs for that actual trip. As already mentioned not everyone has the time to do recces and plan routes, i was offering to do that at no cost.

In an earlier post the suggestion is there for others to come on and take a trip, i see none have offered so far.

As for the ego thing, well each to their own, some of us are too old to worry about stuff like that, but if thats what floats your boat then crack on. Cheers

i did take this the wrong way to start with, thinking why should someone who hasnt met me question my morals, but then i noticed it said 'amateur' which i wouldnt consider my self, with my planning and logistic experience or my company, to be, so at least that line passed me over. Very Happy Cheers

I can't speak for Pete of course but I can give you a direct example which involves Pete. Earlier in the year I put a post up on the forum to see if anyone fancied a days laning in Yorkshire. For me to get there and back is around 160 miles, plus around 60 miles on the day. A week before I went over to do a recce to check the routes and as a result of that made the decision that we should do the route the other way around due to the heavy rain.

So 160 miles + 60 for that, then 160 miles + 60 miles for the day = 460 miles total. I wouldn't have dreamed of charging anyone for the fuel, it was just a fun day out, and I chose to recce it because I'm not a numpty, and believe that you cant take a group of people on a trip of any kind without knowing the conditions and the nuances of the route. Would I have dreamed of asking those who came along to cover my fuel? No chance. It was my choice to do the trip. Pete subsequently invited me to north yorks to do some routes he knew - did he say "now then mike, i;'ve done a recce and it cost me 50 quid so I need that back from you". Of course not.

It's one thing being a commercial operator and another doing it for fun. If the latter, you can't charge. If the former, it becomes commercial with all that that entails.

Morally right or wrong. Correct etiquette or not, the guys have always been upfront that there would be a cost involved for an organised laning trip through JST's not for profit organisation. Those that are cool with that will go, and those that aren't, won't.

This has been done to death now. So can we let this one lie and then the thread can remain for discussion for those that are interested.

Chaps... still there in principle for a 25/26 Feb trip. Be warned, I'm a novice! Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

Pete, took me and a few others out round Yorkshire.... he also put us all up in his house for free and supplied breakfast for us all......also been out with BigMike a few times and he has never charged either.... Andrews has also been very help full in the past with laning and also never charged....I just think with you taking members off this forum you should be more gentlemanly and not charge for your service, NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. Guys, i understand totally where you are coming from.

to question someones morals and call them ungentlemanly is somewhat below the belt in my opinion, but as PM says we will let it lie.

maybe i should of just run it commercially and avoided a load of unnecessary crap from people who have no interest in going and are intent on making everyone else know that. Well point taken, i ack that BigMike, Fekete and Willy dont want to come. thank you for your constructive comments.

From my perspective we do a fair bit off roading from Competing to organising to teaching pretty much all elements of it. Yes it is alot of fun, but like anything when you do alot of it, it becomes the norm. i am lucky and i ack that.

What i thought i would do was offer to take people away for the weekend so i could get to meet a few more on this forum and also offer my services to sort out routes etc as already explained.

There is a following and some want to do it, some don't, thats the way it is.

If i am not interested in a post or a thread then i tend to ignore it rather than go out of my way to try and annoy people on it.

You have made your point, thank you, rather than run it for another 8 pages why not go and annoy someone else, preferably on another forum you may frequent. Cheers
