Well yes, I have chosen a colour scheme... chose one on Monday, chose a different one Tuesday, Wednesday yes you guessed it a different one.

Every time I see a nice defender, I change my mind to the colour of the defender I've just seem....

It is a problem because the bulkhead will be painted the end of this week and I need to choose a colour, just a note my calipers are going to be orange with black logos...... Twisted Evil

these ones

Burnt Orange

White

Keswick Green

There is a Metallic British Racing Green that LR use on the range rover and it's lovely, this is the closest I can find on a defender

I'm hoping a lot of it is going to be obvious as the installation guide doesnt seem to contain much details, time will tell.

Have you any gauge drivers? There are small black boxes with PCS stickers on them. Andy

wanted to at the start, but the combination of these four things changed my mind.

1. the T56 to LT230 adapter did not exist, I could have got it made but was very expensive and would take time.

2. Both the the guys at Xcess 4x4 and winchester gears suggested the auto would be much more sympathetic to the drive train.

3. The T56 is a 2wd units and would need converting to use with the TC, doable but again another mod

4. The 8L90 has some great reviews and the LT230 adapter is readily available, so available in fact that I'm still waiting for it Laughing

so I caved in and went to route of least resistance....

I'm really hoping that I dont wish I'd stuck with the manual every time I drive it...

you should have a Chevy performance loom for the LT1.It will have a good few wires labelled for rev etc but you just ignore them. Then with the PCS kit you need the loom and gauge drivers which pick up the oil temp rev etc. You basically fool the LR ECU to think all is normal engine wise by disconnecting a few wires and then the LT1 ECU and Gauge driver do the rest. The guys that got you the PCS shifter should be able to get you the bits that are specific for the defender install but give me a shout if you get stuck. Andy

So my plan with the electronics is to use either the kit from Futuranet or from Nick at RW engineering. My info is they both replace the LR ECU. I'm also integrating a TPMS system just to make things really easy. Both options I'm told are all I need.

They both have pro's and con's but the RW solution has a seperate display installed into the cluster to provide lots of other info such as gears, temps, pressures etc etc.....

I'm not sure if I've got anything right as I'm strill trying to put this together so please keep your advice coming.

Hope the above makes sense.

I am installing AC.

I was promised a 350hp, 600nm engine... think that's substantially more than a td5?

My td5s 230bhp and 530nm. Bigger airbox and theres scope for ALOT more. So no not worth it, if you doing an engine swap go bigger.

A M57TU/N57 is capable of 450HP when tuned so I cant see how the TD5 can realistically match that?

Hi Matt,

I did watch that and was very concerned fixing seats directly to a 2/3mm piece of Ali, no subfame and no fixings back to the chassis. I am absolutly no expert but even with my limited knowledge it seems wrong. (perhaps there are parts not shown in the video).

Compare that against OE or the YRM kit both have a steel subframe and both connects to the chassis.

Your advice on the location is good though, I've taken the distance of the floor fixings from the original so hopefully it will end up in the OE position as I dont have any trims yet.

As for the ABS/TC, the new ECU will replace the LR ECU and connect to the GM ECU that way the standard cluster works and I get AC control as well and have even integrated (in theory at this time) a canbus tyre pressure monitoring system.

Cluster should look like this

Theory is all good but still need to get it all working in practice.

As for the question of colour that is the topic of the moment in our house right now....watch this space

Have you any info on the digital display Paul? Andy
