Approx. 39k miles, 2.2 110. New drive flanges and a generous helping of grease will hopefully extend the life of the half shafts for a while, but eventually I'll go for one piece shafts.

Well guys - I'm on board. Let's go for Solihull and get the "shaft issue" resolved.
I changed my shaft one month ago. JLR has no fix for this issue.
My car is only 5.5 years old and I have to rely on Ashcroft - Land Rover keep things going and don't resolve anything.

I'm frustrated.

P.S.: The turbo hose issue and the oil pump issue are related to genuine Ford parts .
They start a recall and are far more costumer friendly.

I must be the luckiest guy with a 110 Puma!

- Removed transfer box
- Noticed no play in the output shaft whatsoever (as far as I'm aware, it's never been replaced in 110.000 kms)
- Want to replace with Ashcroft kit, as it's all disassembled now and it is coverered in a lot of red dust (bone-dry)
- Now: The output shaft sits so tight in the coupling, I can't get it out... It's only a spring clip isn't it?
- And: Any other suggestions than: 'a good pull'? As that doesn't seem to work Sad

Before I start to manufacture some kind of puller for the output shaft.

- Hopefully the bolt holding the female coupling to the gearbox is easier to remove...

Use a slide hammer to pull the shaft from the coupling (the correct way to do it).

Getting the female part off the gearbox is generally harder.

Any case where early Pumas have been checked, let´s say around 100kkm, and output shaft splines were in good shape/minimum wear? Puma 110" SW

^^ Yes, here. 2009 model year (August 2008 production) Puma 2.4.
Last fall at 85k km my clutch went kaput, was replaced by dealer. Knowing the problems with these output shafts, I asked them to check condition when gear/transfer box were all split up. All fine, no wear or rust, saw it myself.
Could it be that back in those years Solihull assembled and aligned everything still better? Not sure, but I believe these rust and wear issues discussed here are mostly from more recent model years.
LR must have realised (too late) that there was an issue as at the very end of 2015/2016 production, Solihull suddenly decided to put extra Weicon paste as output shaft grease. (The blue stuff which with most of those late production trucks starts leaking out almost from new)

Mine just failed. Bang on 100km (66k Miles). 2.4l MY2011. Not sure if that counts as early or late. More 'in the middle'. Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I’ve found that earlier models are less prone to failiure/wear
2011 onwards seem to suffer more.

These are my own findings, so don’t hold me to it.. Thumbs Up 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Hey Grenadier, we are not down by the lake anymore. New stage in life. Thumbs Up We changed a few days ago our license plates from GE to VD. Whistle
In Geneva they now say that we are driving in a "Véhicule Dangéreux". Rolling Eyes But as per the song of Shania Twain, "That don't impress me much". Laughing
So we are a bit higher up now at 850m altitude (lake is at 420m). We are high enough that in addition to a Honda grass mower, we now also have our own Honda snow blower and snow plough on caterpillar tracks ready for next winter. Cool
But the weather indeed is great now, and while we are not down by the lake anymore every day, we do have a unrestricted view from our new deck of the entire lake from Montreux at the left to Geneva at the right, and exactly in the middle in front of us we see the fabulous Mont Blanc. Here is a poor quality Iphone picture I took from our house a few evenings ago.

It is a Weicon anti-seize montage paste that was used at Solihull late in the production. Available from Land Rover as part number IYX500050.
Most likely it is a totally metals free, and non-hardening paste, same as the other Weicon anti-seize montage paste which I use on my door screws, bonnet catch, etc. That is Weicon ASW450 high tech metals free paste. Great stuff, never hardens, not even after years. And it keeps its working capacities upto a temp of 1400°C.
